Full Shred or DM Steve's Special...I like the Full Shred better, but the Steve's Special does well. Both are very defined and prominent in the mix.

    Norton. Enough said.
Good trades with: Dominus, Jackson Distortion, Richard, DWVINKY, Notesfeld, Inhuman, Brunogio, SFW, Jolly, Darthphineas,

    I'd have to say either:

SUper Distortion (highs are WAY underated for that!) or
    Air Zone

But it sounds to me like you need something a little tamer....

I have to ask how you asdjust the pups? Height/poles?

I've had the AT-1 in 2 guitars in the last few months. I love Andy Timmon's tone, but I'm not diggin the pickup. It's treble response seems shrill and thin and it takes turning the tone knob halfway down to level it out, and then the pickup is fairly muffled. I wonder if it wouldn't sound better with a 250k pot, but since I also have a PAF Pro in the neck I can't go with the 250k volume. I've heard people saying that it is Andy's interpretation of a JB with 250k pots, but the AT-1's highs are much more shrill and icepick than the JB's are, even with 500k pots.
That is the exact oposite experience I and many others have had. I'm curious what sort of tone you are dialing in or what gear you are using. Must be something odd, or something is very wrong with your wiring. Shrill, thin, or brighter than a JB are definitely not the words I'd use to describe it, and I've used it and the JB in any number of very different guitars.

RE The Norton, some folks around here and on the DiMarzio site seem to have a big woody for it, but I for the life of me can't figure out why. Also FWIW, I agree with the characterization of the Super Distortion above. Fuzzy is exactly the word. That's another pickup I've never liked.

Finally something I can agree with you on.

FYI: Ragging on two completely badass pickups like that can destroy your credibility real fast.

Yep I ragged on them by saying I don't care for them. I guess my credibility is shot?

OH well! I like the AT-1 and Breed Bridge far more than the Norton, and the Super 3 a lot more than the SD.

    Sue me.

I also don't like EMGs, any of them. Take that!
