I'm older than a lot of players here (I'm 55) and I know quite often when music lovers age they tend to branch out with what musical styles they get excited about. Maybe that's part of it?

I enjoy reading these pick up forums a lot, but I wonder how many who read this thread could chime in on guitar sounds they love that aren't like the ones mentioned above? (even though I like those styles myself)

Besides loving modern style players/bands such as Mike Akerfeldt, Gorgoroth, My Dying Bride, a few players/bands outside of the Metal genre for me would be:

    Danny Gatton
    John Scofield
    Jeff Beck
    Ry Cooder
    Frank Zappa (pre Stratocaster FZ)
    Reverend Horton Heat

Who else here can get just as jacked up on players/bands other than Hair Metal-VH-Pantera-Slayer type tones?

C'mon Dudes and Dudesses (how many FEMALES are on this forum?!)
I think when talking about guitar hot rodding, the guys talking about it must be rock/ metal players most of the time, not jazz or classical. So I think it's just natural. Even jazz players who hot rod their guitars aren't pure jazz, they are jazz-rock/ fusion players.

In fact, I have noticed that electric guitar as a musical instrument is actually more associated with rock music than any other.

That we have the time and can call up such intense passion for trivial matters (as compared to guitar forums in, say, Syria right now) shows that Great Recession or not, we are STILL so blessed in the West...
In 1861 as the Confederate forces were about to fire on Fort Sumter, the blue and gray had infinitely more in common than the blue and red today. What fellowship can "the truth shall set you free" ever have with "there is no truth, only points of view", or "what is truth?"

Secession would be a horror. But barring a major national crisis like a Black Death magnitude epidemic or nuclear attack to erase once and for all the myth that truth is negotiable, it is coming.

Wow... One of the mods said something like " you don't need to read every thread If you think you are not going to like something there don't read it." I still think this is a great and very balanced forum. All the other forums I have been to are not. I love coming here. I am not into metal but I like chatting with a guy who plays metal as much as a guy who plays Jazz, Country and Gospel music. I think it is fun. And you can always learn something new. I am not a Big EVH fan and I get a little irritated every time I see a EVH tone seeking thread. But I understand there was a time I wanted to NAIL Blackmore's tone.

I would rather, off topic of pickups and guitars 'n amps ( and tubes), argue about whats therapods could or can't do, whethere they were Pack hunters or not, how modern dinosaurs therpods, the birds, still show vestiages of thier ancestors, etc etc, or, the fact that modern Homo Sapiens are not pure but a mixture of ancient homo sapien, homo neanderthalenisis and in some cases, as in oriental asia to the americas, also included Homo erectus. If its not that topic, then Star Trek or Battle Star Galactica....

I'm 53 years old and I love to play Classic 80's Metal, along with what constitutes Classic Hard Rock as well. I used to have 2 Fender Strats but I recently sold them because my wife and I are in the process of adopting a 8 year old boy. Currently I play a ESP LTD Viper 100-FM which some could say is a " Metal " Guitar, but IMO, is very adaptable for any genre . I use that through a Crate USA made, GX-80 combo which has a Celestion V-12 and I also have a Fender Champion 110 which I installed a Eminence 10" Rajun Cajun . For effects, I used a recently acquired, Digitech RP-50. I'm not at all ashamed or embarresed of my choice of gear or my sound, or especially the style of music that I play . IMO, you're never too old to Rock N' Roll, so let er' rip and have some fun !

This is the best thread I've ever seen here.

Mono Culture could actually be a decent name for a band.
Every love that made me lose my reasoning. Every chord that made my conscience ache. Every day spent counting hours. Well, none of them comes close to singing back a song inside my head.

    I remember calloused hands and paint-stained jeans, and I remember safe-as-houses self-belief.

While not monoculture, I would say blues is rather the leading genre on here.
