Default Bridge pickup for Modern Metal

    Hi,

I would like to exchange the t top bridge pickup in my Les Paul Custom

for another modern metal oriented pickup, for a more contemporary metal tone

in conjunction with my Bogner Uberschall.

What do you guys suggest me to try?

    Thx

    Foster

You absolutely want a Duncan Custom. If your LP is newer, TB-5. If it's older, SH-5. Measure the string spacing at the bridge to be sure.

I Love the Custom and I have it on another LP Standard,

but into the Uberschall it sound too bassy..it has a huge low end and the Uber too..

Think about it in a Les Paul Custom that it's darker than the standard..

I need a pickup with that character but more compatible with the uber voicing..

I'm gonna say DD too. It's brighter, tighter and more screaming than the Custom.

they are both ceramic beasts. Love them both. I just made a custom/jb hybrid with a ceramic mag and its so metal its ridiculous.

I like Invaders for metal, especially through heavy distortion. The clean tone is a bit muddy if you do one pickup on full but if you install a 5 way switch or some other means of coil splitting, the clean tones of split invaders actually sounds rather nice.

Either a Duncan Custom or a Gibson 500T.

DD and custom are both metal pickups. And do it well. very different. DD is more cutting and shredding and precise. Custom is just bludgeoning! huge massive sound and not as sharp. Both are defined enough to do metal. Custom is warmer and bigger, DD is more shredding and accurate. Both are awesome. Like I said, The hybrid I made is the best of both worlds. It's so badass. Consider it. but if you are not into hybrids then either of these stock duncans will do you fine.

Is the Hybrid just a ceramic mag into a JB?

If yes I could try it easily..

    Thx

I think with that amp you may want to look at a Full Shred or a Dimarzio Crunchlab...

No. A Hybrid is a pickup made with coils from two different pickups. In this case, one from a Custom, the other from a JB. Then use the ceramic magnet from the Custom. Though some people prefer to turn the spacers around the magnet on their sides to make them taller, and use a magnet from a Distortion [hotter, slightly different tone].

Full Shred is another pickup that's hugely popular for tuning down, because it has less of the deep lower mids and below to avoid being loose in rigs that don't like pickups with too much bass, but enough above that to give a great growl.

I'd go with a Distortion or a Full Shred, myself. Depending on whether you want a ceramic screamer or the Full Shred's chunky blaze.
