I saw a lot of it, and was glad we had some events that the Chinese weren't going to kick our ass in. Toward the end, I didn't care who got a medal as long as it wasn't going to China. We were neck and neck with them during most of it.

Well, it is relevant in some ways. First, within a huge population you have a greater probability of outliers to appear, in which this case translates to athletes of huge natural talent, which coupled with intense training gives you medal winners. Second, I found it dumb how some people were saying this was evidence towards how the US isn't fat and unhealthy. They were basically saying these marginal sportsmen invalidated all the fat people that I saw when I was at Johnny Rockets just a week ago.
