Default Blackout AHB1 set questions! please help :)

I've been lurking these forums for a couple days now and have come to realize that people magnet swap. A *lot*. And get great results.

So my next question is...can you magnet swap an active pick up? Is it even possible?

And on that note, has anyone tried an AHB1 neck in the bridge position? Apparently the neck is an Alnico V magnet vs the ceramic that comes in the standard bridge pick up what tonal differences might it make?

Nah man, it's totally sealed up with epoxy and my understanding is that the blades are the magnets.

Interesting. So that leaves swapping the pick ups. I wonder how the neck would sound in the bridge position? How do alnico Vs tend to sound? Anyone got experience this particular swap/A5s in general? thanks!

Yep, none of that stuff with traditional actives like EMG's & AHB's. BUT, everything's on the table with the Blackout Modular Preamp (BMP-1); mag swaps, hybriding coils, airbuckering, turning 2 single-coils into 1 active HB, making a weak Strat stack into something w/balls, etc. That product is very liberating for someone wanting to experiment with an active setup, and it costs less than one pickup.

There's that, and yeah, a lot of people like the neck as a bridge pickup.

I hear the EMTY pick ups also have A5s... I wonder if they'd be similar in tone to the neck AHB1.

I'm gunna play around with height adjustment until I restring, and then I'll try swapping the bridge and neck and see if I like that. I don't know exactly what it is in my tone I'm not 100% fond of, but there's something and I'm just gunna keep experimenting till I find something I like haha. I am a huge fan of the 85/60 set by EMG in my Ibanez, so maybe the neck Blackout will yield similar results.

I swapped the bridge and the neck. So far, in my ears, the neck suits me much better haha. It reminds me of an 85 in many ways. A little darker, less bright (which is great) but also more headroom, more "open". And just a little more punchy. I can "feel" my palm mutes now ;D

That being said, the bridge in the neck is terrible lmfao. WAY too much bass, and just... output galore. I can't get a clean tone to save my life, even with the volume completely rolled back xD
