My family found a new way to annoy me

Someone will take a picture, message it to me and 5 other family members at the same time. Then for the next 6-8 hours I get to farm in everyone's messaged replies - chiming in, talking about it, whatnot. Sometimes my phone will beep like 10 times in a row and it's all that BS, like 10 new but pointless messages.

It's like a forum thread that taps you on the shoulder all day whether you want to see it or not.

I have group messaging disabled on my phone, but doesn't stop it.

I don't know how to say leave me out of it without coming across like a jerk. Typical miscommunication of my family.

I tell my friends to turn it off. I start getting all sorts of messages from numbers I don't know. If they don't turn it off I threaten to send out disgusting pictures to any group message.

We have went totally overboard with tech.

It has made people think that burping is a major life event that needs to be told to the world.

I liked talking to people only when something significant occured. It kept me interested. I enjoyed hearing about it.

Now, I hate and despise most people. I wish they would all go away. I see how dreadfully mundane their lives are and I want to puke. Facebook is Satan.

a) Burn out on it or
b) demonstrate what desperate attention whores they are

Either way, you win by getting out of it, and getting on with life.

Tell them all to lay off. It's not that bad. They get over it pretty quick. Of course, you'll get the reputation as a curmudgeon. My wife calls me 'Clarkson' all the time after the big guy on Top Gear.

I had the same problem a few years ago. My parents made me send an email to a few relatives and next thing I know I had my inbox clogged with dozens of really stupid chain mails. I had to delete an average of 50 useless mails everyday day!

I politely told them that, although I "enjoyed" the stuff they where sending, that email address was used for work stuff and I was getting into trouble with my boss because of it. Problem solved. Never got a single chain mail from them, ever again.

It's also annoying when you reply to one of those and it goes out to everyone. I didn't know it sent replies that way and would up gettting bombarded by replies asking who I was and why I was texting them.

I can't stand that crap. I get included in a group text, then end up getting everyone's replies. Happens all the time with work related texts. Ugh!

It's all cr4p. The whole lot of this stuff is utter garbage ... the technology is interesting but the way people use it simply shows everyone up for what they are ... shallow, vapid, dull, lifeless nobodies, trying desperately to be someone or something.

The best way is to never get involved with all that junk in the first place. The masses are dragging social interaction to lower and lower levels whilst thinking it's the best thing since sliced bread. It isn't.

Stay away from all that garbage and have an actual real life, with real-life interactions or none at all. All of this virtual stuff is synthetic ... don't have a synthetic life.
