    Default Wireless!

I don't know which room this would go in, so I'm sticking it here. I just bought a wireless system! Picked up a used Shure PGX14 system for $200. It's in used, but good condition - just cosmetic wear on the bodypack unit. Seems to work very well! Look ma, no wires!

I went wireless 12 years ago and wouldn't have it any other way. Mount the receiver to your pedalboard and you'll never run out of range.

My Line6 G50 wireless is just as important to me live as my tuning pedal. Having the freedom to run around and do whatever improves my stage presence tenfold.

Ya Gotta be Kidding me! That is a BIG tone No-no0-. Must be hardwired at all times with high quality cable.
I guess it doesnt matter live on Stage though.

It sounds quite good. I also discovered that the single coil 60 cycle hum vanishes when I'm using the wireless since there's no physical ground connection from the guitar to the amp. Not to mention that it's for live use. Tone kinda gets destroyed live anyway when you have a sound man yelling at you to turn down your amp to begin with.

You're right, if it was in the studio. Live, all the other variables drown out the fact that you're wireless. Alone, you probably can hear a difference. But in a live band setting, probably sounds the same.

I just played with the system at higher volume in my basement. I can't tell the difference between wireless and cable. It sounds fantastic - even takes rolling off the volume knob on the guitar to lower the gain just fine. I suspect it also depends on the quality of the wireless unit you are using and environmental factors like exterior interference. I know there was a guy selling a Samson VHF unit locally for $50. I wouldn't exactly trust that to deliver reliable or uncoloured tone.

This is the system I have: http://www.shure.com/americas/produc...tems/index.htm

I find the key to the wireless not sucking your tone is 2 fold.

    1. Use a good "Pro" type unit. I have a Shure and a Samson that I use for different things. Bother were in excess of $300 and considered middle of the road when new.

    2. Use it when building your rig. I use the compression that is inevitable to my advantage and have selected other components that work well with it.
