Do you like/love yourself?

I'm kinda on the fence, the one thing that makes me really care
is my wife Peg. She basically has unconditional love for me, as phucked
up as I am. I'm on meds for GAD, but then again I'm extremely
handsome an funny as ****.I have mood swings but the meds help.
I want nothing more than to be totally happy. I'm working on it.
I'd really like to hear how you guys are doing or any advice. Thanks y'all.

I think most self-loathing comes from comparing oneself to a self-image of how one ought to be... and almost always that image is based upon features of other people who we envy or admire.

When you realise that even the coolest people you know or have heard of are just normal everyday people with their own flaws and their own history of epic failures/sins/mistakes... you come to realise that you're actually on par with them anyway, that they're no better than you.

i don't know that i can answer this question. i don't really think of myself in that capacity...i'm not my own companion or friend or whatever. i just do my best to be the best person i can be, and others can choose to like me or not as they see fit. i am comfortable with who i am, but that's about as far as i can go with that.

I know I'm a good person and all that stuff, but I've never had much self worth. I honestly don't think very highly of myself. I guess when you're growing up and you constantly hear from your father that you'll never amount to anything, and that you're worthless, and all that crap, you eventually believe that it's true.

I quit giving a crap about 10 years ago to be brutally honest. Our society and culture has been bred on superficiality and materialism to the point that humanity in and of itself is almost extinct. Even the poor are now born with a silver spoon in their mouths and their hands held out for freebies. Considering the human race has absolutely no moral fiber anymore, how does one judge themselves?

Quite simply, you can't. Not if your values are even remotely tied to what they're supposed to be. I wouldn't say that I love myself. To me that breeds arrogance. I am content with myself, my family, my life. If there is something you don't like about yourself, then change it. If you're trying to change because other people think you need to change, then don't even bother. Be good to you, your family, your fellow man and stop caring what other people think. As long as you believe you're a good person, then others will see that and follow suit.

I like myself ok I guess in a psychologically healthy way...

I don't love myself in some narcissistic or egocentric way at all... I can be selfish at times, and impatient at times... and there's lots I can work on.

God loves me, my wife loves me (most of the time anyway) my kids love me, my students mostly love me, and I am a happy happy camper most of the time.

I'm ok, you're ok.
