Better is relative. I haven't heard of better songwriting since "November Rain" and "Estranged" came out.

What have you been listening to for the past 20 years?! There's a whole world of music out there!

With that being said, let's look at what Axl Rose has done since the original GnR broke up:

    1) Chinese Democracy (2008)

Now let's look at what Slash has done:

    -With Slash's Snakepit

    1) It's Five O'Clock Somewhere (1995)
    2) Ain't Life Grand (2000)

    -With Velvet Revolver

    1) Contraband (2004)
    2) Libertad (2007)

    -Solo

    1) Slash (2010)
    2) Apocalyptic Love (2012)

I'd argue Axl Rose is really nothing without good support around him. GnR was a collaborative effort, as it's been proven with Chinese Democracy that Axl can't produce anything decent without the rest of those guys.

Whether you like him or not, the truth is Axl is one of the best singer in the history of rock. He has a distinct voice with balls and attitude.

Can I say, DJ Ashba is a pretty good guitarist, I seriously like his work, but I do wish he wasn't in GnR.... I'd much rather see him tour with Sixx:A.M (provided Nikki Sixx can get some spare time, and James Michael needs to take a break from producing too)

I seriously urge you, check out some of DJ's work, either in Sixx:A.M or other stuff, like his solo album and other bands..
LtKojak, on the theory of having too many guitars...

Also, I'd like to remind you that the very concept of having "too many guitars" just doesn't exist. It's been selfishly created by parents and/or girlfriends/wives to lure you to stay away of your passions just to have more of YOUR money and YOUR time at THEIR disposal!

Give me a couple of songs which could top "November Rain" and "Estranged".

With that being said, let's look at what Axl Rose has done since the original GnR broke up:
Yes, Slash and co have done a lot more post-GNR, but none of those songs, IMO, can touch the brilliance of "November Rain" and "Estranged".

Saying Axl is "nothing" without good support is a little too far. He's better with Slash, for sure, but he's not bad at all without him. "Better" and "Shackler's Revenge" are pretty rocking songs from Chinese Democracy.

I'll go with an easy answer: The entire Radiohead catalog. And that's barely scratching the surface. Don't get me wrong November Rain is a good song but it's pretty average musically and lyrically. And to just end your music experience there misses tons of great song writing that is much better in different ways. I'd argue that if it weren't for the change at the end and Slash's solo, the first part of the song is forgettable at best.

Methinks you like these songs way too much. But that's your opinion so who am I to judge? What you like is what you like....enjoy it man.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I thought Chinese Democracy was one of the biggest musical flops my generation will see.

I've had plenty of people try to get me into Radiohead, and every time I just think it's garbage. To each his own. I'd probably listen to "The Spaghetti Incident" before any Radiohead album.

Touche! Although, I must admit, our band back then used to cover "Creep"
