Default SD To Launch Whole Lotta Hubucker Worldwide

Here's the first new product that is shipping in just a couple days to stores around the world.

Over a year ago Seymour Duncan launched the Whole Lotta Humbucker set as a limited edition UK exclusive. This set was based off Seymour’s experience working at the Fender Soundhouse with artists like Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and many others. Seymour recalls, "When I’d work on one of those great old guitars for a client, I liked to rewind the pickups with 42-gauge plain-enamel wire. I’d also insert sand-cast Alnico magnets with a better-balanced magnetic field, which made the B and high E sound as powerful as the other strings. This modified pickup had more output and a higher frequency response. The Whole Lotta Humbucker set is an exact replica of these special pickups. 8.78k DC resistance for the bridge pickup, 8.20k for the neck, custom winding pitch, and a calibrated sand cast Alnico magnet. I have such great memories of living in London, so I’m thrilled to be producing this pickup once again." Guitar players around the world who are looking to capture the tone of an era will now be able to get Whole Lotta Humbucker at their local store or favorite online dealer.

Difference between the UK - short mounting legs, so fitting it will be no problem.

    Video to follow next week.

Very cool! Yet another pickup I'd love to try one day.

So, PAF variant number 5 I think if we don't count the Greenie set from the Custom shop. Lord knows there is a demand for them.

This is a great set, I just installed a pair in my Les Paul Traditional last week and it has made a huge difference to the stock pickups. To now get these at standard production prices rather than going through the custom shop make them more than worthwhile. Although I am happy that I got to deal with MJ and having her wind me a set of these.

I *believe* the street price was $94.95 individually and $189.95 for the set. Last I heard it was black, white, zebra, reverse zebra with gold or nickel covers.

Not with this one, of course that requires quite a bit of pre-coordination on our part since we don't sell direct. But I can confirm SDUGF discount is being discussed for other things

These sound interesting. IDK know the actual differences from the 59, but they are wound hotter, wound differently, and have a sandcast mag according to the original post. I believe the 59s have polished a5s, no? And they def are not that hot.

Here's a review I did of the set a few days ago if it helps any: http://www.seymourduncan.com/forum/s...-set-installed

I have never tried a 59b before but have used a SH-14 Custom 5 in my Les Paul. The Whole Lotta Humbucker bridge gave the impression of being as hot as the Custom 5 but had much more of an open feel if that makes sense. For anyone that thinks the Custom 5 is scooped sounding, the WLH seems much more balanced.

The WLH neck has a similar comparison to a '59n, much more balanced in tonality overall. A touch less bass & treble and a little more mids overall.

If this helps any I can put the sound of this set into some song comparisons:

    Bridge - Rock n' Roll
    Middle - Whole Lotta Love
Neck - Since I've Been Loving You

Keep in mind that this set is very versatile and can do much more than the Led Zeppelin thing. I would say there is enough of a difference to the set of '59s to give these pickups a try.

I could have sworn I posted this last night.

My guess is that it's the middle ground between a '59 and a '78.

My guess is that this pretty little thing is close to a 59 set with RC UOA5 in it, with a little more output. But I'm just gessing...

It comes off hotter and with a little more edge. Most of the difference comes from the sand cast magnets and a very specific and unique winding pitch that are used for these pickups. End result is more a little more response and fullness on the E&B strings.

Sounds like exactly what I would want to change about the current 59s. Nice. I think I am gonna have to try a set of these in my 335.
