Default Opinions on the Les Paul tremolo unit...

I mean this kind of thing:

    Anybody used one before?

Obviously it's not the same thing as a Floyd, but is it at least decent?

    It's damn ugly though...

I've never tried one, but I can't imagine that it would work very well with the strings sliding over the almost knife like inserts on a tune-o-matic.

I am sure that if it is even barely used, the tuning will be way off. Between the tune-o-matic and the string pull on a les Paul headstock the thing will be very hard to keep in tune. Though I have never used one.

    Never!

A Les Paul needs a tremolo like a fish needs a bicycle.

To be fair I haven't tried one but voted it's alright. I do consider myself a bigsby conniseur (sp)and this should work like a bigsby in the amount of pitch fluctuation. I can see this being a very good unit if properly installed and maintained. You will need to put liquid teflon on the saddles, nut, and pivot joint. You might need to slightly raise the grub screws. The use of graphite saddles (if you could find any) would potentially help.

You honestly don't expect fish to swim long distances, do you? At least not with recent innovations in bike technology...

well i use the trems on my guitars reay often and i once tried a LP trem. it sucks compared to the floyds and kahlers. It's way out of tune even if it was just a slight movement of the trem. Thes things are just not good to work with.
