    Default Stringing a bass

Ok, feel dumb asking this question, but would rather ask then go on not knowing...
I restrung my new bass. It is a string thru body, but it also has a large metal plate under the bridge and you can string it from there as well. From the factory, the ball end of the string was under the plate I wanted the max sustain, so I wanted to go thru the body. Now, because of the extra distance, the taper down part of the string is on the fretboard side of the nut in the first fret as opposed to headstock.. So, the string does not go thru the nut at full thickness. This only happened on the low E.. Is this a problem? Im guessing no, except if I fret that string near the nut, I may feel the taper. Am I correct?? Thanks!

Are your strings the right scale length? My old Jazz Bass was string-through and I never had that problem.

I guess. Standard D'Addario. My bass is normal and not long scale. Only string that has that problem is the low E

"Normal" basses are long scale. Still, unless you bought medium or short scale strings, I don't know why you'd have this problem. I've never encountered it on any of my basses or those that I've worked on.
