    Thumbs down Wtf??!?!

Was just jamming on my flextone 2, and when I changed patch with the footswitch (FB4) the sound wasn't right...

It should have been set up :

A= A vintagey OD sound forgot completely what model, dry
B= Soldano + some light delay
C = High gain Marshally thing, dry.
D = Fender somethingmajig clean, dry

I clicked on D and it had chorus and delay; thought WTF?? and then clicked on A, intending to click straight back to D to see if D was still fcked and A had what sounded deffinatley like the "insane" model on it :E

I didn't try B or C, I just switched the amp off and then back on again - problem apparently fixed. But I have no clue wtf happened, and why :/

Anyone else had their amps temporarily possesed
    My clips

Modeling amp ... digital devices freak out sometimes, usually due to a residual static charge, esp in the winter time.

Yep, my Flextone III has gotten 'confused' before, it gets stuck on one patch and won't let me change to another. Powering on and off has always fixed it.

Yea, my Spider has gotten "confused" from time to time. The worst time was a bar gig here in town, and none of my patches were coming up correctly. Nor were they being consistent. I was having to reach back and physically change the settings while I was playing. It was interesting, to say the least. Annoying, to say the most. Chalk it up to being a computer.

I've had a Line 6 head get locked on the noise gate one time, and it was cutting into the tone heavily, even tho I was trying to change patches.

Here's the solution on Line 6 and probably the other modeling amps.
If the amp ever acts up, and you don't mind erasing all the stored patches...
TURN OFF THE AMP, HOLD DOWN ALL 4 CHANNEL BUTTONS, AND TURN THE AMP BACK ON. That will reset all the logic and restore it to the way it was when new.

Does this happen with most modelling amps? ive never heard of it before but if its a fairly regular occurance it would drastically change how i would ever feel about buying a modeller.

With a modelling amp, it's almost a guarantee, that you will have to re-set it a some point, which will wipe out your patches and put it back to the factory set-up. If your like me and it takes you a long a$$ time to come up with a decent patch, I'd recommend some form of back-up. Either right down your favorite setting on paper or back them up to your computer, if the amp has that feature.

Yeah . . . most modelling amps are just a dedicated uProcessor, with a RAM hard drive, and a dedicated sound card, that boot-up and run a program on start-up. They're destined to "crash" at some point.

One of the things I like about my J-Station, is its ability to load, save, and manipulate all the presets on the computer, and burn them to a CD or floppy.

Darn shame they quit making that little beast.

    Nuni,

If you go on over to Institute of Noise's (a forumite) site, he has a link to a download called Line6 Edit, it might even be on the Line 6 site. Anyway, it's a program for your computer, and if you have a midi-in and out, you can upload, download and edit patches. It works sweet!
