a bass amp![]()
i have no clue tho. i thought randall's sounded good in that department, but what do i know. i think good low end can come from other factors than the amp itself. Open/closed cab, speaker # and size, guitar wood, and pups can do alot

+1. Lotsa factors to consider. I'd have to think that something along the lines of a Mesa Dual/Triple Rectifier would be a good starting point.Originally Posted by BluesNRock87

Start with a closed back cab, that's for sure. Size of the speakers.... 10" ones seem to be generally tighter to my ears than 12's or 15's.
Too generic a question...

Sorry for being so generic guys. I'm talking about semi high-gain stuff. I want to use my mesa with another amp at the same time... I find my mesa to have a bottom end that gets flabby.

try the zack wylde Jcm800 head, its very pricey, but when i heard it i was blown away, lovely amp, it was so long ago i dont know how it compares to my jcm800. certainly one of the best and tightest bottom ends, not such a high gain amp, unless you put an OD pedal infront of it, then it becomes a monster.

I would try diferent speakers first unless you are wanting another amp. I have been trying some different combination of speakers with my Super Reverb [ 10's, 12's, 15's ] sealed, ported and open backed. I keep coming back to the stock Rola 10's in the opne back cabinet. They just have a real tight punchy bass that I like.

That should be pretty tight.

I'd agree with the Powerball...you can turn on a dime with that amp!

Of the amps available, I'd say Randall has probably the tightest bottom end. Solid State will do that.

The problem, or feature, or whatever you want to call it!, with most Mesa's is the sensitive EQing. How do you have your EQ set up? Mesa even goes and tells its users that too much bass makes the sound very flabby/flubby, whatever. Dial in with care with Mesas!, even more so than most amps. They are naturally very bassy. The bass (on most), doesn't add so much low end as thicken up the sound, which results in a very loose flabby sound if dialed in too high. I can only speak for the triaxis, but the vast majority of my high gain settings I have the bass on two, three, even zero at times. More treble, more mids, much less bass if your Mesa is too flubby imo. Of the Mesas though, I think the Mark IV has a better/tighter low end than the Recto series, but its really all in how you EQ it.
