About the Laney GH50 and GH100... just to clarify... can they not go from clean to distorted at the touch of a button, since they only have 1 channel?Originally Posted by BigBazz

i think they can yes, the footswitchable gain stage does that. simply put stepping on the footswitch adds more gain. i think it best that you seek out more reliable information and/or try one out.

Mesa DC-5. Two channels. Great cleans and a Mesa Mark-like distortion. You can snag a combo for about 700.

How many watts is that DC-5 combo? I'd like something loud enough for a small-medium gig...
Edit: Well.. its 50 watts I'm sure... but how LOUD is it.. but is it 1x12 or 2x12?

It's 1x12. I'd get one myself if it wasnt for the fact that they never go used here in sweden it seems.

Hey, thanks for the replies guys.. but I'd still like some info on those Laneys if anyone knows anything.. there are plenty of reviews on harmony central.. but I don't really trust them...

try there
Laney GH100L & GH50L
The GH100L & GH50L are single channel master volume style heads with footswitchable gain. These amplifiers are capable of a huge variety of sounds, from sparkling clean through powerful crunch to full on monster tones and everything in between. If tone capable of turning people's heads at 100 yards is what you're after - look no further. As well as astounding tone these heads offer a valve-coupled effects loop and link jacks for slaving several heads together. The GH100L and GH50L feature ECC83 equipped preamps and 5881 output sections. The output sections can be retro fitted with EL34's and re-biased at the flick of a switch for the player who likes the tone to be typically British. The GH100L and the GH50L are pictured with the GS412IA and GS412IS cabinets - designed to enhance the amplifiers huge tonal range and produce stunning tone at any volume.

Ive got the combo version of the vh100r, the vc50. I would actually recommend going with peavey. You shouldnt have trouble getting a 5150 combo or a XXX combo used off ebay, but the xxx doesnt show up near as often as the 5150.
I dont think the aor series is very high gain, but im not positive. Even the vh/gh series doesnt get real high gain like a peavey. Its enough for most metal, think metallica or megadeth, but it wont do anything over that without some help.
If you try and get a laney, you might wind up waiting a few weeks before you find the right one cause they arent that abundant. I had my eyes set on a VC50 for over a year and it took me that long to finally get one haha. I would have the money, then the one i bid on would just go out of my range, and when i had more cash one wouldnt show and i would spend it on something else. Go figure eh?

Quick question about the 5150 combos.. isn't the FX loop kinda.. well.. crappy? I heard it was kinda difficult to use for some reason..or something like that

theres an xxx combo, but its the one with the "digital effects" and i hear amps with built in effects arent great, but its at 400 (reserve not met).

I have a Mashall Mg100DFX. It is the combo version of the stack (solid state) but I love it. It has a 2 channel foot pedel for distortion to clean and effects to no effects. On the clean channel it had a crunch setting (its a button) for great vintage crunch and blues and the distortion channel had an ulta setting (also a button) which RULES! it has a line out for recording easily and directly, a headphone line for playing quitelty, a cd in so you play along with your cd player, a FDD button (which i dont really know what it does but it makes it a little louser, i think it makes it higher quality tone, not sure but i leave it on and an effects loop in the back. Also you can unplug the speaker cable in the back and hook it up to extension speakers EASILY!
I love this amp and i really will not need another until I am old enough to buy a stack with no hastles. Until then (which wont be a while!) this amp will do perfectly. And if you want to, you can get the stack version for only a few hundred more (i think) I am pretty sure it was 350$ or 450$ at guitar center brand new! Check it out, it seriously rules and you save sopme hardcore cash! It can get a volume to play clubs easily and still have room to spare. I seriously say you should check it out, IMO, but thats just me, i am a Marshall guy for the most part.
P.S. I personally say check out the Peavey XXX before you go for the 5150, it got better ratings and it has so much gain aparently that it is rediculous. it also has better cleans and has many more features, and you can find one very cheap on ebay! Check them both out!
(sorry but I forgot to say the effects that are built in are chorus/delay mix, delay, chorus, and flange. It also has a reverb that stays on all the time, if you decide to use it!)

Its not about love or hate, wrong or right, its about perception. Just do it, say it, feel it. There are no lies... lies are too human. Its so much thought that its none at all. Its no religion, its not defined. Its not even real. Its about being connected to the point that you didnt even know. Its the reassuring peace in pain because it hit you & its over & you felt it. Its the pits of Hell found in Heaven. Its not being connected with a god... we are all god...

mine works just fine, it has caused problems due to where it sits in the amp which is sometimes why the amp is known as noisy, but i havent had any problems with it, i use delay and reverb pedals in the loop and they sound fine, its a footswitchable loop but has no other features like the avt150 has switchable loop levels and mix Dry/Wet knobs at the front, the 5150 has a basic footswitchable loop, its fine.Originally Posted by zippy
i think the 5150 sounds better then the XXX, clearly shown by the number of 5150 users compared to xxx users and the fact that peavey are continuing to sell the amp in a different name after eddie van halen left peavey.

It depends on what model you are talking about. I have a Slash signature and model # 2100 JCM 900 and I almost preffer the 900. Now, alot of people reguard the Slash and Jubilee as one of Marshalls better sounding amps. So, what does that tell ya. BTW, My 900 was made between 90 and 92, it is not one of the SLX's.Originally Posted by STRATDELUXER97

Can that 800 do high gain without hitting the front with a pedal?

My friend...oh yes!.......(Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica...saw them in '86 on the RTL tour...it's what Kirk played through!)... not quite as "mid scooped" as the Diezel's or Bogner's....but in a gigging situation...perfect!Originally Posted by zippy
