Default Bridge HB swap in MIJ Jackson DK2

Hey I'm considering changing my bridge humbucker pickup in my made in Japan Jackson DK2

It's H-S-S, alder body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard

I've been considering dmarzio super distortion, dimarzio d'activators and emg h4a.

    Looking for the "Metallica sound"

If you're going for a Metallica sound and want to stick with passives, maybe you should consider an Invader. I heard that Hetfield used them at some point, though I can't remember if it's a fact or just a rumor.

i was just on the SD site listening to pickup samples and the invaders and the sh-6 sound nice but i think i like the sound of the blackouts the most.

edit: maybe its worth switching to actives?

Remember also that there are many blackout models.
Probably the "metal" model would get you closer to that fast/crisp attack that is the old-school het-81 tone.

What about a Duncan Custom? I had one in my ash body Jackson Stars Soloist and it seemed to suit the Metallica sound. I ended up swapping the Custom for a DiMarzio Super 3, as I wanted more mids. The Super 3 is awesome in my opinion.

So after some more thinking and research, I am going to keep this guitar passive. I don't want the hassle of creating a space for the battery and I also don't want to have to get 2 active single coils aswell. Sooooo anyone recommend a passive hb? I heard sh6 before

a passive pickup for the Metallica tone that they get from active EMGs?

start with the DiMarzio D-Activators and the Mojotone Level Head.

Dimebucker into a mid-booster would be in the realm also.

    Best options:

    DiMarzio D-Activator

    DiMarzio Evolution

The "Evo 2" is also an option in the bridge. It's very immediate, but is not quite as cutting as the original Evo...a bit more versatile if you want that. You can also pair an original Evo in the bridge with a D-Activator neck for a solid combo.

I don't know if passives can get the exact Metallica sound...it is so clean and clear. I might go more modern, like a Pegasus. It gets a clinically clean high end, and is super tight for chugging.

I can tell you won't stop until I've picked up a set of the Evolutions.

    Which one?

Through a Marshally-sounding cabinet (lots of mids, not a lot of bass) a Duncan Custom through a Big Muff-type of fuzz pedal with the mid control turned counter-clockwise will get you very very close to Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets. For anything after those, you'll want a Mesa-sounding amp with a cab that can handle the bass.

What era of Metallica? Everyone always thinks Metallica and Slayer= EMGs but the older stuff was done on passives. I think the Garage days EP was the first one that they used emgs on. I think Hetfield's white V had an Invader and one of the explorers had dirty fingers. Have heard custom or distortion for Hammett will have to check some of my old guitar worlds to be certain.

I've played a D Activator and currently have an Evo in one of my main guitars and while they're both great options, the D Sonic with the rail towards the bridge is the closest I've heard to a passive EMG 81.

Duncan Distortion sounds good in one. I have a Dimarzio Breed Bridge in mine right now that I like. i would guess the Super Distortion would sound good too, but I've only tried those in short scale guitars.
