    Default Mounting pickups?

Which is your favourite way of mounting pickups on a guitar? What are the differences between them? Do you know of some other way?

    Cool Re: Mounting pickups?

I've always mounted my pickups to the pickguard... but today I'm gonna try just screwing the pickups onto the body on one of my strats - ala Eddie Van Halen style. If it works out I'll post a picture.

I'm sure it'll work, but try to find out if there are any tonal benefits. Maybe even clips before and after?

    Rings or in a pickguard.

I find direct-mounted pickups look un-finished, unless they are single coils then they look funny with a ring...

I´ve heard that a direct mount is better for tonal pourposes... and they look even nicer than with mounting rings...
to the who is going to direct mount his singles, be careful, you have to check the axe´s body if its deep enough maybe it will work, but try anyway and tell us the difference you heard...

I prefer simple things and i love to just stick some foam under the pickup and screw it into the wood.. saddly once you drill the holes out into the pickups mounting arms they can never go into a ring or pickguard....... I hate messing around with the springs and rings/pickguards for humbuckers mounting.... I hate those Flat head screwdriver pickup screws as well! Too much of a chance to slip and scratch your guitar! I know that these little screws look better but i like the idea of a thicker larger thread screw.... something more solid and less wimpy.. but that never looks right..

For Singcoils i have the tubing Fender uses for springs... I always wondered if that stuff would work for humbuckers too..

+1. i hate the look of direct mounted single coils. direct mount hums are o.k. with strat style guitars i like pickgaurds the most..with everything else rings are the way to go; more adjustability and you can play with the color of the rings for coolness
