Can't compare - but I do have an X2N. Compared to everything else I've ever heard - It's just plain uncalled for. There is no earthly reason any pup needs that much gain! If it does - go get your amp fixed. All in all, a decent tone, and nice split and parallel (I actually like parallel a lot!) . But every now and then, I'll put it through my pro jr. I always feel like I've violated the preamp tubes afterwards. I guess if you have an amp the just won't go to "11" to quote Nigel Tufnel, this will help. It's just ridiculous in an over-the-top Spinal Tap kinda way. But if you already have all the other knobs on 11, and you need just a bit more....

The Evolution is very tight and VERY focused, amazing for solos, though i dont really like tone for chords that much, a little TOO much definition. The X2N has more power that me or you or any man would ever need, but thats one of the reasons i like it.

The X2N is very fat, helacious output, crazy harmonics, overall, kickass.

The Evo is very harsh, helacious output, crazy harmonics, overall, good for Steve Vai, bad for me.

It doesn't touch an EMG 81 as far as output goes. I also very much prefer the EMG 81 (or 85) to the Evo. It was actually one of my biggest disappointements, gear wise, as I'd wanted one forever, and when I got it, I liked it for awhile, then just kinda got "blah."

X2N has more output than an 81 the Evo has a touch less about as hot as a JB.
