Either HR/HR/HR for a great legato guitar or JBjr/JBjr/JBjr for a great guitar with overall great tone!
Welcome to the forum, Pentachris! I'm certain there are a lot more people to give better, first-hand advice than I could, so be patient

This should give you great distortion from the bridge position and great versatility as well.

true singlecoils or humbuckers in single housing?
the mind is willing, but the flesh is weak...
if possible , mini hb (splittable)for all positions!

one of the best combos imo is the hot/vintage/cool rails in the bridge/middle/neck position respectively. super versatile and not just for metal.

Dave Murray does well with three hot rails. I think the triple JB option would be good as well. Some people like a Hot, Cool, Hot config. The lil 59 in the neck and middle with a JBjr in the bridge is another great option.

But not in every guitar. My favourite Murray tone, atm, is his JB Jr, 2x Hot Rails Wayne ... also an alder body, I might add.Originally Posted by Luke Duke

Why don't you take your little Cobra Kais and get outta here?!

I don't doubt that the hot rails are finnicky at all. Which would explain why I've yet to hear one NOT in the bridge that I thought was dialed in.....or even liked in those positions at all.Originally Posted by TwilightOdyssey

Once I had the height nailed, it was like the heavens opened and the tone just clicked with the bridge pup!Originally Posted by Luke Duke

It's interesting how such a small difference in pickup height amounts to such a big tonal change. Is there a reason that applies to the HR more than the JB Jr?
I didn't know Murray ever used a JB Jr either, good news! Maybe a JB Jr/JB Jr/Super Distortion will allow all three Maidenish tones.

an idea: Jb jr bridge
Hot Rails Neck
Little '59 Mid
Work?

I would go with JB Jr bridge, 2 x Hot Rails ...Originally Posted by pentachris
