Default Wondering about an OD pedal...

Right now I'm very content with my rig. From just my amp I can get great tones for blues, classic rock, modern rock, and metal. I can get clean jazz tones as well. The one tone that I'd really like to get and can't from my current rig is a thick, liquid, sustaining, violin-like overdrive for jazz/fusion. Yes, reminiscent of "the D-word" . I've read accounts of pedals being able to get in the ballpark (which is really all I can ask for, considering my budget ), most recently the HAO Rumble Mod.

I was wondering if you guys had any experience with pedals that helped get near this type of tone. I realize I'll probably be looking into the "boutique" market and that they will be priced accordingly.

ZVEX, Fulltone, G2D and Diamond Pedals, those are the only ones i can think of right off, diamond pedals get my word, i have played there j-drive and fireburst... but i am seriously gassing for a ZVEX fuzz factory sooo bad.

I was actually wondering if maybe a nice fuzz might do what I'm looking for as well. I'll go dig up some sound clips.

the ZVEX Fuzz Factory is an amazing pedal, i have no hands on experience(wish i did) but it takes careful tweaking to get it too sound right, there is demo's on th ZVEX site and some clips of people on there forum. I would also look into the Electro Harmonix Graphic Fuzz, thats another promising fuzz pedal, by the way i am looking at either of these pedals, but i am leaning towards the Fuzz Factory.

The Fulltone OCD sounds like it's going to be a KILLER pedal.

The Menatone 'Howie' comes to mind, since it's named after Howard Dumble.

What you don't want is a Tube Screamer variant. You want a very linear clean boost with tons of gain. Forum member, Marin, gets the type of tone you're looking for.
He's using a Banzai Fireball into an Engl combo. It sounds like he goes for a very midheavy smooth highgain tone with the presence and treble rolled back.

My favorite tones for that style are Robben Ford and Carlton, who both use 59's or similar A5 neck pickups.

Yeah, I've already got my TS-808 area covered with a Visual Sound Route 66. The Robben Ford tone is an excellent comparison to what I'm looking for, as is Scott Lerner. The main guitar I play this stuff on is a mahogany/maple jobber outfitted with a C5/Jazz combo. I can get somewhat close, with what I've got, but just not quite...

Sounds great, but not quite what I'm looking for. Thanks for the tip though, that's a killer country/blues type OD pedal.
