    Thumbs up A2 JB Heavy demo

    Some metal and slight punkish influence in here... Recorded a while ago before my PC died so my lead playing has improved since then a bit (I hope ), but the tones all there

    All of it is my poplar hardtail strat + A2 JB -> guitar port.

    It gets this really cool gnarly growl IMO anyway, \m/

    Hope you like the riffage+tone

    Great tone. Great playing. Heavy enough, but still articulate.
    How did the A2 mag change the overall tone in that guitar?

    Well, I recieved the pup with the A2 already in it but I can compare to the stock ceramic pup that was in there before.

    The ceramic one had a more brittle top end where as the A2JB has a more rounded one. I have a no load tone pot in my guitar, and I find I run it almost always on 9/10 with the A2 JB, but with the old pup I turned it down to more 7/8 ish to tame the highs a bit sometimes.

    The A2 JB still has a decent low end, probably not as much as the ceramic pup, but it has nice lower mids imo and doesn't sound thin; it can still pull off "chugga chugga" if needs be. Bear in mind I don't like an overly bassy sound at all, so if you're expecting this to have the bass response of a C-5 or something similar, it doesn't.

    The mids are where it's most different, the old pup was extremely aggressive in comparison. I guess with the output of the A2 JB it still has a bit of rock\m/ in it, but it seems more controlled and more useable for other styles as a side effect.

    Not trying to hijack the thread, but I thought perhaps I could add to the knowledge of tone possible with a JB w/A2 mag. I recorded and posted this on the old board in October 2002 using a Peavey Predator (poplar body, maple neck/fretboard) through a Flextone 2 XL (XLR straight to mixer, no mics). I used the magnet from a Custom Custom for the pickup.

    Stylistically that pickup seems to get the job done quite well;
    I enjoyed the tune;
