Sounds loud. Only, I don't think loud is a strong enough word.

instead of getting an insanely loud amp...have you ever tried miking a normal amp through a PA

edit: unless your goal is to make the the guy in the very last row ears bleed, and in the process blowing the heads off everyone else...

does that amp come with earplugs? or at least a big a$$ warning label?

damn boy, how loud do you need it to be? ... i mean, have you bought one of those SPL meters down at ye olde radio shack to see how loud you are from say, 1 meter away?

heh, looks like i got a lot of explaining to do, but, one more thing, this thing has TONS of bass, i went down to drop D, hit an open power chord, and...jesus, my heart skipped a beat. About the buzz thing, you gotta understand that A) i don't intend on having it that loud for an entire show & B) i play weird ass spazz rock, REAL weird, like at the drive-in mixed with AFI mixed with the daughers (daughters are kinda like slayer i guess, that's the closest comparison i can think of) but, our songs really have no song structure, its really mean, fast as all hell, and well, you never really know what i'll pull out of the air when i'm writing a song, so, well, lets take a song i just wrote, it's real fast low chords with fingertapping fills, then goes up to these chords i don't know the name of, it's like...top 4 strings, middle 2 open, and top 2, the progression goes 11-12-15-14, with stops, then it pauses for about a beat & a half, then goes into total loud mayhem with mean sounding open chords, which sound most ideal RIGHT before they hit white noise. So yes, my goal is to knock people on their asses.

as far as micing, it's not an option, ever, and i'd rather have a really loud amp then buy a huge PA to mic the 50.

and i'll buy an SPL meter in a couple weeks, give you guys a reading

I assume you're talking about old AFI (more like the Misfits).

Yes but those are usually the kind of venues where much more than 50-60 watts is overkill.

Yeah but if you turn 50 up halfway how much can you crank it with 170 watts under the hood .

eh, like art of drowning/all hallows era AFI, so yeah, just, real dark, though once i get all my pedals I'll be able to pull out some weird crap like they did on sing the sorrow, but it'd prolly be more like at the drive-in style weird crap. Relationship of command is one cd that's never far from me

and yes, we have to bring our own PA's to the venues, which are pretty big actually, like the size of a small warehouse, i'm not gonna try to guess square footage. So 50 watts is NOT overkill, mg100 halfstacks barely cut it, BARELY, any quieter than them & you may as well go home.

and about pete, well, i have smashed a guitar before, had a hell of a time doin it too, the tele aint gettin smashed, screw that, but if my bands ever take me to a point where i can afford to do that kinda thing semi-regularly, hell yeah i will

I dunno man, we played a show at the local high school's auditorium and had planned on using the PA there. When we showed up we found out their amp had died a week or so before so we had to go "amp's only". Didn't have a problem playing to 1,500-2,000 seats.

In the end, if you're happy who cares right? Just at least be smart enough to wear ear plugs (and maybe hand them out to the first few rows ).

i mean, it's pretty hard stuff, and when you do that kinda thing, well, you have to be kind of intimidating, like, you blast away every other band that plays that night

and girls like being intimidated, so in a way, an amp can get you laid just like a fast car can.

as far as playing it on full, well, when i hit my boost pedal (eq for now, prolly gonna be a boss OC-3 with the level up soon, cuz it gives you undertones which makes you sound raunchier) it's gonna hit real mild preamp distortion, and the 170 was measured clean, so i dunno, take about 3-4db away from 170 or so watts, and that's normal playing volume

and auditoriums have AMAZING acoustics, sound just carries & carries, these are like...squarish buildings, concrete floor, wood or concrete walls, and uh...that weird cieling material that looks like cottage cheese
