    Default Bass Players.......??? for you......

I'm looking for a good beginners bass and amp, what should I be looking for in quality and features. What wattage of amp would work for small club size venues? I'm looking at spending no more than about $300 to 600 total for amp and bass. Tonefordays, how does your wife like the Agile that you just got her? All advice is very appreciated!

    hey bud

she's up there practicing right now ... it is a real nice little bass for her purposes (beginning student) ... she got the short scale, but i'd be surprised if the full size models werent just as good ... as i mentioned in my review thread, the intonation was WAY off and i had to wrestle it back into shape to make it playable ... we went and picked up the littlest fender rumble practice amp last night .. MF has them for $120 ...

as for club giggable volumes without going into a PA, i am going to guess that 100 SS watts is probably a minimum for bass ... if you are using a DI box into a PA, you can probably get away with not so much ... i've also wondered if this carvin would be a good amp ... the 10 day cash back guarantee makes it worth checkin' ...

you can also scout out the used section of your local music store ... a good way to save money and get a decent bass ...

I second 100 watts for clubs,my bass player uses it and as long as you can use the house pa to reinforce it it can do whatever you want. Also look for a used Crate Bx100. Its got a 100 watts a single 15 inch speaker and a 8 band eq. Sounds very good too. Should be able to get it for around 150 bucks.

Very true! Also check out the new Ibanez RD series, i suppose they are really cheap over there, and they are great, solid, beautiful basses!

I have one btw, feel free to ask me about it if you're wondering .

i'd say for basses, look into used washburn XBs. i got a used one with EMGs put in by the previous owner, and it's such an individualistic guitar! mines an XB-500, its heavy as f*** (no, heavier! ) and it's never let me down. just a good quality, solid lump of wood with soapbar pickups (easily upgradable)..

as for amps, SWR does a workingman's 15 which i've seen do club gigs and sound very nice... (the 15 means a 15 inch cone, i think its like 80-120w, i've never gotten close to one)
