Anyone have any idea what kind of magnet was in those humbuckers? Someone who should know told me A4. Sounds an awful lot like a2 to me.

Gibson LP Melody Maker -- stock, Epiphone Dot -- Jazz neck and '59 bridge, Fender Telecaster Blackout Deluxe -- stock, 90's MIM Standard Strat with Duncan Texas Hot Custom in the bridge.

Sounds more like a2 than a5 to me, but I've no idea what a4 sounds like.
That's a don't know.![]()
My hair gets longer as the beat gets stronger
I'm not real familiar with him but I remember hearing he wired his pickups in parallel
Sounds like A2 to me too. It was a '58 Les Paul.
A4 sounds very clear, ballsy and articulate. Lindy Fralin humbuckers all use A4.
To my ears, A2 accentuates the mids and A5 accentuates the bass and treble. A4 has more mids than A5 and more bass and treble than A2...kind of the best of both the A2 and A5 world.
A4 can be a little edgey and bright sounding if you're not comfortable with that much clarity and articulation.

It was actually '59 not a '58.Originally Posted by Lewguitar

Its Gary Moore's Les Paul.
Peter Green thinks its cursed.
