Default Recording software, right into the sound card..

Hi guys.. I'm wanting to do some easy recording into my pc.. I can only plug into the mic input, so I'm hoping to use some software to do some recording.. Just for fun.. Nothing really serious.. Just to do some stuff for my kids, and maybe to rustle up some other players and get their interest going to form something later..

Any ideas on some cool recording software that's either free or cheap for the guitar.. It would be great if it had something for backing tracks, or bass and drums invovled, but if not, no big deal..

    Sure buddy!

Very simple. Just fiddle around with it, then you can try bigger stuff. Enjoy!

    P.S

To record from an amp to the PC, you can either mic it, or you can use a 1/4" inline mono cable and add a 1/8" outline at the end, then you plug in the 1/4" into your line in slot in your sound card!(The cable must be either from the "headphone" jack or the "line out" jack of your amp)

    +1 to that site!

A great free recording program is Kristal Audio Engine. It's free and I'm finding it VERY useful.

The EMU 0404 is $99 from GC and comes with software... I suggest you pony up the dough for that... I tried to use the "mic input" and it is not built for recording... It is lo-fi, and will color your recordings something awful... The EMU is an inexpensive audio-interface that provides several inputs.. L+R 1/4", MIDI, SPDIF, etc.... I have used it extensively, and had no problems with it... and the resolution is higher than CD quality... Of course, there is no need to record that high, as you have to mixdown to CD quality anyway....

It will be one of the better investments you make, I assure you...

I record direct from a POD into a 1/4" guitar input on a Audigy Platinum Pro sound card. Using Ableton Live software at the moment. I'm diggin' it...

I have an alibi on what I posted earlier... If you already have a premium soundcard, you might be able to get some useful tones without interference... If you have, say, an HP straight from the store, you probably are gonna experience dificulty with the noise interference....
