Yes, I couldn't remember what it was called, but now that I've checked the homepage I can see it's called "evh phase 90" as you said.

i would think that its similar to the regular phase 90 but more expensive because of EVH's name. never tried it though.

i had a regular pahse 90 and bought the evh pahse 90...notice my name...lol!

anyway, there's a script logo button that supposedly makes it sound like the old coveted script logo phase 90s when engaged and a regular phase 90 when not...there is a noticeable difference and i prefer the button engaged...anyway, i really like it...

I have one and like it a lot.
- great EVH classic Phaser sounds
- does not alter tone when off
- looks cool with blue LED
- $129 is reasonable

That cover sounds great, even though I think the guitar tone is a tiny bit different than VH's, but I guess that comes down to pickups and amp.

I beg to differ on the EVH Phase 90. It is a great pedal, but 129 is a bit steep for me to pay. Also, I dont think that the button engaged takes the circuitry COMPLETELY to script phase 90... if you want an exact, dead-on clone of the same phase 90 Van Halen used and don't mind getting your fingers dirty, check out www.buildyourownclone.com and look at their phase 90 pedal. I think it's 65 bucks, plus about 5 for shipping, all you need is a soldering iron and solder and you can piece together an exact replica for half the cost.

joe, you know me, i LOVE my clone and will build more from them....BUT i also love my evh phase 90 and couldn't be happier with it! i think i may build the MXR dynacomp clone next!

As mentioned, there is definitely more (or less = meaning parts) to making the current block logo sound like the old script logo. I'm not 100% sure what the switch removes from the circuit but my first guess is R28 and a few caps. I took my orange block logo and just removed 3 components, adjusted the trim pot and now it sounds tons better. Gotta make one more tweak though for unity gain.

It can be used for metal, rock, whatever. Zakk Wylde has the EVH Phase 90 in his rig now.

The build your own clone stuff is really cool. Haven't done those myself though but would like to try 1 or 2 of them.

As much a fan if EVH that I am, I wouldn't pay that much for it.

not only does the clone sound better, but you'll get an extra load of fun too because you built it yourself

Is it hard to build yourself, or is there some kind of wiring map or whatever coming with it?

If you can solder and wire up a guitar, you can do this. It's pretty easy. Don't start with anything too difficult. Start with easy circuits and work your way to the more difficult ones. The Rangemaster is super simple, low parts count, and you may like it in your rig. I believe all those kits come with diagrams showing what part goes where and all the other stuff. Those who have made them here can chime in and confirm.

I don't know if it's a good idea, I've never tried wiring up a guitar either, since I am kinda new to that stuff..I mean, I can play it, but doing all the electric stuff myself has never been my strong side...Would it be worth the risk?

I ordered a Rangemaster clone to try my first DIY pedal. After that, I'm going to do the phase 90. All the detailed instructions are mapped out on the website for each pedal, step by step. The only mess ups would be soldering mistakes, because every step is explained in great detail.
