Im thinking about either a 70s marshall JMP or a hiwatt dc103 custom.
Are there similarities here or are they terribly different?

The Hiwatt is more clean than most Marshalls from the 70's.
Plus is has a bigger slightly more dry tone.
Both sounds positivly great.
Cannot say much bad about either brand![]()
Not gonna miss you know!
Information is not knowledge.

So when you say "more clean", do you mean that it wouldnt distort as much when pushed as a marshall would?
Depends on what tubes you use, but has a different overdrive than the Marshall.
But everybit a loud and full, actually do not stand near it when it happends, I know from firsthand experience that it is insanely loud...![]()

What tubes do the hiwatts have. The marshalls have el34s right as their power tubes?

And that picture of Gilmour at the end... Man...![]()
Both amps sound great for the '70s purpose. For me, the main difference is, the HiWatt is much more modern voiced. Them guys foresaw the future more![]()

think pete townshend's tone from "we dont get fooled again"
