    Angry Help on new purchase

I made the mistake of going to Guitar Center to purchase replacment pickups for my Carvin strat. I asked for a 59 in the neck and a JB in the bridge. One of the employees said he could do the install. He said he could use the coil splitters that were already on my guitar. My problems are this, the tech installed a bridge version of the 59 pickup in the neck and he could not get the coil splitters to work on either pickup. I was also curious if all Seymour Duncan pickups say Seymour Duncan on them as the 59 pickup does not have any text on it but he JB does. I want Guitar Center to replace the 59 in the neck with the right pickup and to fix the coil splitter. Any thoughts.
    Thanks,
    MHH

Some people like the sound of bridge pickups in the neck position (Jolly, IIRC).

BUT, that's not what you asked for, so they should make it right. Besides, SD has a 21 day return policy.

Welcome to the forum, bro. Yeah, you can put a bridge pup in the neck or vise versa, but they shouldn't have done it unless you told them to. As for the writing on the pups, all of them I've seen say Seymour Duncan on them, but there may be a few that don't. Are they new or used? Some people like to remove the name.

The vintage correct pickup's, the "PAF" models do not have the silscreen on them. The others will.

I'd return both pickups, get your money back and deal elsewhere. Based on what you've said, I wouldn't want someone who already screwed up my guitar to mess with it a second time.

Dealing with GC for anything is an absolute nightmare.

The fact that a so called TECH couldnt do a simple pickup install is pathetic.
The fact that he didn't know that 59B means Bridge is pathetic. The fact that he didn't already KNOW that 59's only have 2 conductor wires is pathetic.

One of my favorite pastimes is going into Guitar Center, and telling THEM things about gear. Or proving them wrong when theyre lying to me. It's fun.

I try as often as possible NOT to give my business to them. Unless I'm haggling on a piece of used gear.

    +1 to what martin6string said

yes, a '59 can come with or without the logo ... i think most come without .... if it was a 4-wire version (usually 5 or 10 dollars extra - some stores keep them on hand, others special order), it can coil split - if not, it cant

actually, just about any pickup can be ordered with or without a logo according to Evan at the UGD tour .. all depends on what the customer wants ...

    Definitely!

By coil splitters did he mean push-pull pots? How did you previously split your coils?

Where do you live maybe someone here can give you the name of a good tech. Regardless I'd have GC make it right on the pup end not do the install. What's my guess about what happened you ask?

Someome saw they were out of 59 neck position pups so they substituted a 59 bridge pup because they figured, hey it's low output too, they won't even be able to tell the difference.

You'll use it, boy, and as long as you hate using it, you will use it more wisely than most men would. Wait. If ever you don't hate it any longer, then will be the time to throw it as far as you can and run the other way.”

First let me say thank you to everyone who replied...The guitar is a Carvin DC 127. It is all Koa and on top of doing a half assed job with the pickups the tech put a 1" scratch in the front of the guitar. In regards to the question on the coil splitters, there are seperate toggle switches for splitting the coils. Not sure if that answers your question.
    Thanks,
    MHH

    Yes it does help!
So is there one switch per pickup? We'll try to dig you up some diagrams.

We're just glad we could help man, intrinsic good, that's what it's all about!

Sorry about the scratch in your guitar too man.
