Which one is better?

I look to play metal and a ton of coheed and cambria/punk with either guitar so I need help. Here are the specs of each guitar, its either the LTD Viper-400 or the LTD EX-400:

LTD Viper-400:
FEATURES: set neck construction; 24.75” scale; mahogany body; 3-piece mahogany neck; rosewood fingerboard; flag inlays w/model name at 12th fret; EMG 81/85 active pickups; volume & tone controls w/3-way toggle; black hardware; Grover tuners; Earvana compensated nut; tune-o-matic bridge w/stop tailpiece; white binding on neck & headstock (creme on Olympic White); 24 XJ frets

LTD EX-400:

Well...if they are both 400 series, I would think they are of the same quality level. I don't know if it's a question of "better". Have you played either? I think if you do you will find a preference for one over the other. You might save yourself from not being happy and losing money when you sell the guitar you don't like.

The Viper is a great guitar from what I hear. I've looked into them, but in the end I bought an SG Standard. If you feel something for the Viper...go for ir!

HELL YES! The Lead Singer, Claudio Sanchez, ues a Gibson Explorer with a set of EMG 81's!!!

I haven't played an ESP Viper guitar, but my friend has the EX and I'm not a really huge fan of it. Eh...it was really really light, I"m sure the viper is heavier...my Horizon is like a lead weight compared to it.

They also have the EX available in white now just a by-the-way

Both guitars look killer in white!!! I wish that I could afford the gibson then just buy a set of 81's and put them in..........i dont know how to though.....

theres like $150 difference in price, and it looks like even though the viper is cheaper, it has some features at least i like better than the ex.but really the biggest difference is the pickups. do some research on those and you will probably find out which one is better for you.

dude.. have u played them? the EX may look cool but it needs a little getting used to. buy it based on the feel too, not only the looks. feel is no. 1 when i buy an axe. no use getting the coolest looking axe which plays like sh!t.

Dude they're really about the same. It should really come down to simply what body shape you like better, that's all.

+1.thats what i mean when i said feel. the sg and explorer shapes feel different. sg is more comfy playin sittin down than the explorer IMHO.

They are pretty much the same, so play them yourself. Pick the one you like best. I'd say the 81/85 combo of the Viper is a bit more versatile, but the 81/60 combo is better suited to metal IMO.

I'd go for the Viper though.

I am favoring the look of the viper but I love the shape of the LTD EX-400 because its like an Explorer..my dream guitar!

well, the EX just looks bad to me, it's a sinful version of the explorer and the viper is the only guitar i have ever returned to a music store within 2 days of owning it. horribly ballanced guitar, worse than a real SG IMO and it just didn't feel right to me. why not just get a white epiphone explorer and stick emgs and some better hardware on it? i think i'd rather play a modded epi explorer over the two LTDs.
