MAP pricing is a way of life in the music business as most manufacturers have some type of minimum pricing policy.

Duncan is not the bad guy here, it's commomn practice and does serve to protect all dealers. Without this type of policy the big guys could pull a Walmart and wipe out all the little guys then come back and control pricing because there was no competition. Of all the items we sell I think Allparts and Moses are the only ones that don't have a MAP policy.

The reason why there is MAP pricing is so that the parent company(Duncan) gets maximum spread and exposure to customers as far as dealers go. If one dealer beats out the others like Walmart then Duncan is now tied to that one company for all their customer contact. If that company gets greedy, goes under, or is not in enough locations, then Duncans' sales suffer.

If Duncan was garunteed maximum exposure all the time through one dealer there would be no MAP. This is not to protect dealers, it's to protect Duncan.

Not that Duncan is the bad guy but this is a must-do for them.
