Whats your favorite tone from these artists...
Kirk Hammett shouldn't even be on that list, IMO. Wicked, earpiercing trebly tone with too much crappy wah slain all over.
I'd say Petrucci for lead tones, and Zakk or Alexi for rhythm, depending on if you want chunk or more of a thrashmetal tone.

I love Petrucci's tone but it has gotten far too 'rectifier' in the past few years. I would have voted for him but Alexi's tone just slays all around. Also I much prefer Zakk's tone with Ozzy than with BLS, it just turns to slushy **** with them.

From these artists, Dimebag Darrell, but the real answer that comes to mind when I read that question is: Randy Rhoads!
Rock On - Kac
MIM Fender Strat > Crybaby > TweakFuzz > MIM Fender Blues jr.

what about in flames? amazing metal tone there. As far as Randy goes, I think I should mention Tony Iommi and EVH here for great classic metal tones.

Oh god, it's a direct tie between Zakk and Alexi. I like Dimebag's tone and all, but I personally think it's too scooped. I'm gonna go with my instincts and say Zakk.

from those guys on the list i'd chose alexi but there are so many gret tones around in the metal scene: john schaffer(iced earth),the amott brothers(arch enemy) or Jari Mäenpää (Wintersun)

John Petrucci is my god![]()

No one from that list.
Otherwise, Nile for DM, Halford's Live Insurrection and Kreator's Live Kreation for trash, Maiden's BNW for classic heavy metal.
There are two kinds of people in this world that go around beardless—boys and women, and I am neither one

This is crazy!!!

I'd love to have that system. With all that gear it seems like you'd have to have a degree in Electrical Engineering just to put it together properly.Originally Posted by Hames Jetfield

Haha, I was referring to the top list of the guitarists in the poll. None the less, it would be a bit scarey having to setup Petrucci's rig.Originally Posted by Third Eye Visions

Zakk. No More Tears has the best metal tone, ever.

I'm suprised by the lack of love for Hammet.

I voted for Zakk, with a serious nod to Laiho.
If the Amott brothers were on there they would have my vote without hesitation.

But from the list, I'd go with Ozzy era Zakk. No More Tears was packed full of great tone. However, anymore, I can't stand his tone. The Alcohol Fueled Brewtality live CD has some of the worst metal tone I think I've ever heard.
Duncan Pickups in currently in use: '59 (rewound to PATB-3)/'59, Custom 5/AP2H, Tapped QP set for Tele, Duncan Distortion, SP90-1/SP90-2

From that list, Wylde. I alwasy liked his version of Chug-squeal.
But overall, I'd have to go with the guys from Meshuggah.
