I belive that John has one...I might be thinking of a different pedal, but I think thet it is the only distoprtion box that john has left alone...that says something!

I've got one, very good pedal for the money. It is a versatile unit, with a lot of tonal variation and a ton of gain on tap. It can go from mild overdrive to Heavy Metal/Grunge. It honestly does the cranked Marshall amp thing pretty well although, I think it takes a little time to set the pedal up because of all the tone knobs. The only downside is the small knobs and their color....very hard for aging eyes like mine to see, especially on a dark stage. I would suggest trying one if you can because I don't have your ears but mine is a keeper.......Joe

Pac, I hate to admit it......I've never used a stock DS-1. You need to hook a Jackhammer up, there a ton of different tones. It's a complex pedal....lots of tonal adjustment....I can't explain it's tone because it does a LOT of things well. I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

Great pedal and yes, mine is not modded! Tight, crunchy 800/Plexi type vibe with plenty of lows and gain..I only use the overdrive side of mine as the other side is compressed and too dark for my tastes..I Like this pedal alot.
