Dude, that's how you win auctions! Bidding prior to the last 12 seconds is foolish, and merely drives the price up.

to snipe is to WIN! people who bid with like 18 hours to go drive me nuts and just jack up the price with a hope and a dream...you know damn well your odds of winning it are slim to none when you do that so why bother?? when an auction has like 5 bids when you find it you know there are others who want the item so why bid with multiple hours to go when odds are very good that you will be outbid. i'm watching an auction now that was at $250 when i found it then with ~19 hours left a guy bid it up to $265 then with ~18 hours left another guy bid it up to $305. what's the damn point, i'm just going to bid a large amount at less that 10 seconds in the end a win it anyway lol.

Mate, the fact is you were outbid by someone who was prepared to pay more.

sad but true (duh duh nuh nuh nuh) ok sry.. but yea, he thought it was a great deal too, either better timing or ready to pay moreOriginally Posted by inter

Carvin custom strat (P-Rails/hotrails/single - Tuned Eb) -> Pod XT - - 6505+ Halfstack

Hey man, I was outbid on two japanese minidisc players (same model except different colors) by the same dude, I mean...how mean is that...ugh, what a mofo...
anyway, sucks for you, out of my like 40 ebay transactions I've not won a bunch of stuff.
ESP Maverick (Blackouts Metal)
Jackson Falcon (Invader)
ESP LTD Ninja-600 (mirror) (Invader/Distortion)
Schecter Syn Special (Invader set)

The sniper thing is what most savy guys do........
Here's an other idea, If you see an auction with a starting amount reasonably similar to what other past items have gone for, don't be afraid to bid once THEN put a higher amount so it list's as 2 bids.
You may end up driving off would be bidders!

Wow!! Well, this was the first time I had been involved in anthing eBay, so I didn't know...there is another F-50 head with no reserve now, and I am planing on snipering(sp?) the **** outta that one!!
what exactly do you mean by this?Originally Posted by inter

I tell you what, the real way to find good deals on ebay is to look at recently listed stuff with a buy it now...find those sellers that have a horribly low buy it now...but you have to be quick because those things don't last very long!

Just like ANY auction, eBay sells to the highest bidder, with the only difference that eBay auction have a set finishing time.
The main "problem" is people with pink glasses wanting the deal of a lifetime, typing in that amount, and then getting pissed when someone bids what the item is actually worth... Essentially what is happening here.
ALWAYS bid what you´re WILLING to pay, not what you´d LIKE to pay..... that way, if you´re overbid, it´s because somebody either had deeper pockets or he was willing to dig deeper.... I´ve had auctions where someone bid the winnimg amount mere hours after I posted it, BECAUSE they bid what the itemn was worth and not what they ideally wanted to pay.... And then, if you´re outbid, it´s because you simply can´t afford it, no reason to be pissed
No, I start rubbing my hands and refreshing the bid-list to see the dollar signs go upOriginally Posted by JB_From_Hell

Also very true... most people forget that others have a watch list as well... my mesa poweramp for ex. is at roughly 300€, with IIRC 19 bids.... doesn´t seem like much, but there are over 250 people (!) watching it... the last 5 minutes are almost certainly going to be an armageddon of bidsOriginally Posted by XSSIVE

My eBay tactic has never changed. When I see something I'd like, I decide what's the maximum I'd pay for that - and be happy that I got it. I bid that amount, whether there's 10 seconds, or 10 days left. Then I never look back.
I just wait for the email that says I won or I lost. I've gotten killer deals, I've never been burned, and I never cry in my Wheaties.

I am only the one who gets a rush and has their heart rate increase significantly from bid sniping?

I rarely bid before the last 30 seconds. Honestly, its the best way to get somthing for a good price, cause ya don't add to the jacking up of the price beforehand, and if things get a little too hairy, you can always back off.
