Flying With A Guitar, How??

My mother plays hammered dulcimer and what she did was she wrote the TSA ahead of time about it and they sent her a letter with the law. When she got to the airport she explained to them that she was a professional with an extremely valuble instrument. When the people refused to let her gate check she showed them the letter and then when they were unhelpful she asked them for their names so she had sufficient details for the lawsuit if anything got broken. It worked like a charm. That method won't work as well if you are a poor looking though so dress nice and be very polite.

DONNOT ever check-in your guitar!!!

My hardshell case got damaged because I allowed the flight attendants to check-in my guitar just before I stepped on the plane! Thank god my guitar was okay...

Bring your guitar with you inside the plane!!!

If the plane is a 737 or similar (or bigger) it will fit in the overhead compartment. If it doesn't, then the flight attendants have their own "vertical" compartments (where they put their luggage on) and tell them that they put your guitar in there instead.

On my second flight, with my case damaged, the flight attendants again asked me to check in my guitar but I insisted. We argued for several minutes (almost raising my voice) and sure enough, they made space for my guitar inside the plane. Don't ever take chances with that PRS of yours.
