Default I would seriously like to know why a neck plate cost so much!

    http://cgi.ebay.com/FENDER-USA-CUSTO...QQcmdZViewItem

I could see an authentic 60's plate going for that or more but this is just crazy!

Could someone honestly say why that costs so much? I was looking at buying one to match the CS logo I put on the back of my warmoth neck. But I was expecting like $15, what the hell!!!?

There's an old saying....."there's a seat for every ass." Whoever pays $120 for that neckplate just found their seat!

Take a look at Callaham neck plates. They're thicker & heavier than imports (0.075 vs 0.060), come with random serial #'s and cost $16.

    Just a thought...

    I´ve seen 600

THe main (legit) reason are restorations or wanting to "spiff up" a parts guitar..... unfortunately, it´s very near to the main "sucky" reason of building and selling counterfeits

Chip, I actually recently ordered a bunch of parts from Callaham and probbaly should have ordered the plate as well. But I was planning on getting a CS plate before i saw those prices.

Besides this being illegal, would it be that hard to make a copy of an engraved plate, if someone had the right equipment?
I guess my question is, Would it be easy to get a copy made?

if you know the right guy, yes it would be easy. any body that deals in custom jewelry should be able to do it.

There was a guy on the http://www.eddievanhalen.com forums who was looking into that. Obviously it's cheaper in bulk, but there are machine shops that can do it.

Well, not quite. Fender CS neck plates are still being made and will probably always be made.

I guess its because there aren't a huge supply of these CS plates, because most of them stay on the guitar they were born in. Yeah, that and what GJ said, people are stoopid.

BTW, Guys, remember to write down the serial number in case someone trys to sell you a parts Mutt as a CS piece down the road

Yah, but chances are it'll end up back on Ebay or in a Guitarget where nobody's the wiser. Though, at $300 man...that's some serious dough for a plate! If someone was building mutt guitars and selling them as real deal that could seriously eat into profit.
