    Exclamation Gibson 500T noise

    Hello brothers,

I i'm having a little problem with my Gibson Explorer. When I use distortion and don't put my hands on the guitar, even with the volume knob at 0 (ZERO), there's a terrible noise like electricity or something. When i play it, is okay, and i don't use too much gain. I just play classic Blues and Rock n roll stuff. Anybody can help me? Is it normal because of the high output of the pick up or am I having a problem with my guitar? I´ve got an Charvel with a dimarzio super distortion on bridge and it's incredible quiet.

    Thanks!

    ahahaha Thanks JP!

I really like the combo 500T/496R, the only problem is this noise, because for me, the tone is ok, but I would like to cool down a little bit, because i've been playing more blues/classic rock/southern rock stuff like Allman Brothers, Skynyrd, Blackfoot, Cactus, Zeppelin, Free, Bad Company and etc..
I know Pearly Gates is great for the neck, but how about the bridge? The same is ok? I like heavy and crunchy tones for the bridge, but not so heavy as a duncan distortion or Jb
Thanks and sorry for the amount of questions! heheh

Is your amp grounded? If it's not, that would be the cause of your noizeproblem.

I've had that problem with my old 496/500T set. You will need to unwire the pickups and trim back/cut at least 1" or so of the shielded wire. Then start with fresh solder.

I don't know why the noise happens, but if the pickup is hooked up properly/grounded/etc. then you will know that you need to try this approach. I had to do it with mine.
Guitars: 2006 Custom Order VOS '59 Reissue w/ MJ 'Duane PAFs'; 2002 '58 Reissue w/ RS Fralin Neck and Timbucker Bridge; 1989 Clapton Strat with Chubtone '63's; 1994 Tom Dodson Custom Strat with 14 year-old Hot Rails, and Classic Stack; 1991 Tele Plus Deluxe w/ Tremelo and Dually Red-Lace Sensors

Duncan Strat Pickups I've Tried: Hot Rails, 5/2's, Classic Stack, Antiquity I's & AII's, PGn and PGb, '59n and '59b, Standard Custom, Sreamin Deamon, various Antiquities & MJ Custom PAFs.

Thanks for the tips! I'll search for the right guy to do this for me, the noise drive me nervous.. or even change it for duncans, I really like the sound of the 500T/496R, but I've been playing more blues and classic rock, and they sound too heavy. I'm trying to find a set of duncans just to cool down a bit, but not so much..
At list, for hard rock, or any kinds of metal, it really kicks ass

Pearly gates in the bridge doesn't sound bad. Forum member Jolly has some clips for the PG in the bridge. It's been a long time don't know if they are still there. The PG would be alot more tame than the 500T.
