Jazz vs. '59n

I'm definately getting a JB for the bridge (HH strat w/alder/rosewood-FB, but obviously I don't know about the neck. I love a warm sounding neck pups, but the thing I hate the most is how on some places on your board your strings sound fat, round, and warm, and then metallic, thin, and crappy in other places usually on high strings. I seems like the 59 would be preferable for that but I don't know for sure if it'd be right for me any help appreciated. thanks

i think that the tone wizard would say 59 neck for that wood/pup configuration. definatly double check that one tho. I think that since u r using alder, the 59 would be better. the 59 is a little warmer from what i hear. i would check with the tone wizard and some people on here more experienced with me.

Jazz is really clear, 59 has lots (and I do mean LOTS) of bass. If your planning on using your neck pup for soloing a lot, take a Jazz. It matches great with a JB. If your going for a thicker, heavier sound, 59.

Something about their character makes them similar, it's like the Jazz is little more than a 59 with less bass and more spank.

I have an APII neck in my LP. It is very colorful and very full sounding. It's just a touch glassy for my taste, tho. I use it for very clean things and it does well in that capacity. I'm not such a huge fan of the distortion sound for chords, but for driven melodic lead lines it sounds pretty darn good.

Still, I'm going to try a 59n in my LP when fundage is available.

I find the two to be very similar. They're both around 7.4K...both use alnico 5 magnets. The 59N has about 5% more bass and 5% less upper harmonics and chime way up on top than the Jazz. I prefer the Jazz in most guitars, but I can see how a rocker might prefer the 59N, especially if that player rarely plays with a genuinely clean tone. Lew

The 59N can sound beautiful and clean. Wes Montgomery and alot of jazz artists used Gibson a5 humbuckers in thier L5's and got a wonderful tone through 80 watt Twin Reberb Amps set for a clean tone. It's just that when I crank up my amp for more of a rock tone from the bridge pickup, the 59N has more bass than I need, and gets a little muddy and wooly for a genuinely clean tone. At low to moderate volumes, the 59N gets a wonderful clean tone. At higher volumes, it has more bass than needed and gets a little muddy...which is fine for semi distorted rock tones but not so good if it's genuine clarity I need. Lew

Yes, I found the '59n a bit too bassy for my tastes. Never tried the Jazz, but definitely will, if I ever get tired of my Antiquities...

Well, I'll PROBABLY get the Jazz then because I hate a boomy neck when your doing some warm soloing with your highs strings then you get to a wound string or go from soloing to strumming without changing channels and those open chords sound heavier and turn to mush and it sounds like your amp was just turned up with a bass boost or something. I usually don't like turning knobs between playing (amp or guitar) so i could probably set my amp's settings and wail without worrying about the complimentary issues between the two pickups (JB & Jazz).
Further comments would still be very useful as to warmth & round sounding treble strings on the two pups

A vintage Strat or a Tele! That's my problem...

I use the Duncan Seth Lover or Antiquity HB...those have less bass than the 59N or Jazz N and give me closest to the type of clarity I need for rythym. The soloing tones are great too.
