Gibson USA to Debut 15 New Guitar Models at Winter NAMM 2006
    Press release
    Source: Gibson Guitar

Gibson USA has announced the launch of 15 new Gibson guitar models to exhibit at Winter NAMM 2006 in Anaheim, California, January 19th-22nd. Included in the new offering are guitars targeted specifically to the female player, performance models, special theme semi-hollow electrics and solid body guitars.

Focusing on the female performer, Gibson will introduce the new Gibson Les Paul Vixen guitar model and the Goddess series. The Vixen is designed for female artists looking for a slimmer model guitar at an affordable price. The Les Paul Vixen features a light-weight mahogany body, slim 60’s taper neck with a narrow nut, and 490R & 498T humbuckers. The Gibson Goddess Series features a Gibson Les Paul and SG guitar delivering high-end quality and tone in a slim, weight relieved design. Features of these guitar models include a reduced body size (Les Paul only), slim 60’s taper neck with a narrow nut, translucent 490R & 498T humbuckers, and Madagascar heather ebony fingerboard.

Gibson USA will also launch the following new models which include:

--The GT series, targeting the artist with a heavy gig schedule. The GT series model guitars will handle the regular stage and road activity while delivering good looks. Features include over/under dual truss rod for extra neck reinforcement, push-pull pots on coil split 490R & 498T humbuckers, fully independent volume controls even with the toggle in the middle position, the tone circuit contains a high pass filter that allows highs to remain as you turn the volume down, and it smooths the taper from 0-10, Graph-tech nut, locking metal button Grover tuners, painted in ghosted flames, ‘50s Les Paul neck, NeutrikTM jack locks in the cable plug, Dunlop dual function locking strap pin, and more.

--The Gibson Vegas Standard and Vegas High Roller models are two flat-top semi-hollow body guitars with humbuckers that carry the Vegas and Poker themes to new heights in their design and look. Features include ‘60s slim taper neck, ’57 Classic humbuckers on the Standard, Burstbucker Pro humbuckers and AAA maple top on the High Roller, and rosewood fingerboard with gold frets.

--The Gibson New Century Series includes a Gibson Les Paul, SG, Explorer and Flying V with full-body mirror pickguards to reflect stage lights making the artist the center of attention. Features include mahogany body and neck, 490R & 498T humbuckers, mirror truss rod cover, and classic ‘60s neck (except Flying V).

--The Gibson Les Paul DC Pro is a premium double-cutaway model designed for professional guitarists. Features include AAA figured maple top, weight-relieved mahogany body, Burstbucker Pro humbuckers, and rosewood fingerboard.

Gibson Guitar Introduces New "Inspired By" Series of Guitars
    Press release
    Source: Gibson Guitar

The Gibson Custom Shop has announced the launch of the “Inspired By” series limited-edition collection of guitars inspired by and built to the exact specifications of some of the most innovative guitarists of all time. Unveiled for the first time to the general public at CES 2006 will be the mythical Jimi Hendrix Psychedelic Flying V. Purchased in 1967 and used on tour in Europe during 1967 and 1968, the guitar—with its swirling, psychedelic designs—highlights the spirit of the times and showcases Jimi’s unique artistic expression.

Meticulously recreating Jimi’s guitar has been a labor of love for the Gibson Custom Shop. Originally painted by Hendrix with what appears to be nail polish, the Custom Shop has used materials which reproduce the same sense of depth and texture. The materials and hardware are faithful reproductions of the original.

The “Inspired By” guitars are all handmade instruments crafted by Gibson’s famous Custom Shop, featuring one-of-a-kind looks, style, and tone. The Jimi Hendrix Psychedelic Flying V will be on display throughout CES at Gibson Guitar Booth CP1 (Central Plaza 1) outside the main entrance. In addition to the guitar, guests will have a chance to view rare Hendrix memorabilia on loan from Experience Music Project.

The incredible guitars of the “Inspired By” series will cross every generation and genre of music. To learn more about these limited-edition Gibson guitars go to www.gibsoncustom.com/inspiredby [may not be online before January 6, 2006].

I love Gibsons and will continue to support it's used market.

However, good luck competing against PRS this year. I have a feeling this is going to be PRS's best year. When all those shiny new Singlecuts, McCarties, Customs, and SE's roll into stores, Gibson is gonna wish they'd thought of something better than a 'Vixen model for females with a large expendable income!' And Hendrix V??? Let me guess......$8000??

I think their QC is only going to get worse now because they just put more stress on their production line. They should have released fewer, or no new models for that matter and focused on QC. PRS is gonna stomp them. I know I'll be looking into a Tremonti signature this year if I save up the money.

Blah. The Menace line sounded good, but ultimately I'd end up changing the pickups, tuners, and possibly bridge.

The guitar that this was based on turned up in a Sunderland 2nd hand shop a few years ago, along with a few pedals.
