Hamer Sunburst vs. PRS McCarty

Greetings everyone.

I have a question for you all. Which would you take, an all original '80 Hamer Sunburst in great condition, or a new 20th Ann. PRS McCarty?

At this moment, I have a chance to buy either one for a great price.

The Hamer has a beautiful top and slight finish checking.

The PRS has a 10 top with birds and is brand new.

Which would you do?

Whichever is cheaper, as they're probably both along the same lines quality-wise. I'd probably grab the Hamer.

Hamer Sunburst in a NY minute...I have found that the neck shapes/sizes vary a lot in older Hamers but as soon as I find an older fat neck Sunburst with the sustain block bridge Im gonna get it...

I'd grab the Hamer and not think twice about it. Easy decision for me.

PRS are great guitars no doubt, but Hamers feel and sound like Gibsons, and we all know what *i* prefer

Sheeeet, I'd take the brand new PRS McCarty 10 Top. If I want an old Hamer, I'll find one in a pawnshop for $400.

$600 for the Hamer, considerable less than retail for the PRS.

I've always hated Hamer's headstock, large logo, and uncomfortable control layout. I love everything else about their products including the double cutaway Sunburst body style, but those others are deal breakers to me. WIth the PRS, everything is ergonomic and easy to access, the whole guitar looks good from the headstock down to the curvy body. I'd be confident that that the PRS will hold it's value. I'd be afraid that a higher priced Hamer will decrease or at least be harder to sell. A PRS, though, you put an add in the newspaper or tell a friend and it'll sell quickly.

Well, the Hamer isn't exactly high priced, it is ~20 years old. Selling them usually isn't a problem, in fact there's a message board dedicated to Hamers where it would be quite easy to unload an 80's Sunburst in good condition. In the end, just play them (maybe even with your eyes closed ) and pick which one speaks to you.
