New Axe - Gibson Les Paul Special ( Humbuckers )
OK, so I'm a freak for Les Paul guitars. Lately, I've been playing blues clubs a lot, and I decided I didn't want to bring my nice LP Premium Plus, lest it get kicked over, stolen, or smell like cheap wine and bad perfume for ever.
So I bought a Gibson Les Paul Special with humbuckers off eBay for under $500 with HSC ! No fancy flamey carved Maple top, sunburst finish or binding on this one. In fact, any other company would have to charge a quarter of the price, and offer double the quality, but hey, it's a Gibson !!
It needed major setup work, and I tossed in a Symour Duncan Alnico II Pro neck pickup ( my all time fave ) and a nice crunchy ~ 10K pickup from another company in the bridge.
It replaced my Tele as my blues night main gun, and things are pretty good. I usually bring a '53 Fender Deluxe, or plug into whatever's going. It won't ever fetch $250K on the vintage market, but it does well for my purposes. ( sorry no pic )
