    Default neck pocket question

my cousin gave me his squire strat lastnight. the guitar sounds ok and plays pretty good. but there is one problem the neck sits in the pocket at a downward angle. my american tele does the same thing but it has a allen screw that i can raise to set it up even. but the squire does not. with the neck sitting like it does the action sucks. so i was wondering what the best way to fix this would be. i want to get it set up pretty good and replace the electronics. and also paint it cant have a purple strat haha. anyway off the subject what can i do about the neck pocket?

Sounds like a simple neck shim would even things out. Any local guitar tech should have these or get you one. Good luck with it!!

It may already have a shim in there causing the problem. It may be as simple as removing it and testing.

thanks for the info guys i took the neck off and it doesnt have a shim. so i am going in the next day or so and get one. i talked to the tech here he said i would be better off trying to find one or making one myself. gotta love small towns and overpriced techs. he said for him to make one or get one would run at least $45. so i think i can find one or make one myself.

Whatever you do don't use the micro-tilt neck system on a four bolt neck.

The screw uses the truss rod anchor as a pressure plate but there is only about 1/8" of material between the top of this and the underside of the fingerboard. This can cause the fingerboard to bulge and i have even seen them cracked as result of excessive pressure.

The three bolt neck systems are OK, they have a separate bearing disc but the safe option is always to use shims.
