the gouges bother me - i was gonna say consider it the cost of buying a gibson to have to get some 0000 out and clean the rust off then play and enjoy! ...
but those gouges arent goin away ... so i'd ship it back ...
.. if you want A+ quality right out of the box, then buy PRS
just my 2 cents

If it doesn't absolutely have to be a Gibson I can recommend these quite highly.

If you're not completely happy with it TC, definitely send it back (you've never settled before with all of your other guitars, why start now?)
My SG Custom I got in the other day didn't arrive perfect either. It has a few cosmetic flaws (and a few small dings that weren't advertised), but at the price I got it for and the tone of the instrument (nothing like a perfectly balanced and loud unplugged tone), they're acceptable. You have to choose what's most important to you about your next guitar and you'll have to balance out what's passable and what's not.

I guess there are a couple of things that factor in. First, if you'd have gotten a killer deal- the issues are minor. Second, if you're the kind of person that was looking for a 05 model, you're supposed to be getting a new guitar, not 2.5-3 years old. Regardless of NOS, it was probably a return if it's from a warehouse. Thirdly, there is no thirdly.
I don't think you got a killer enough of a deal to overlook the problems with the guitar.

Yea the flash brough out the flame, its not so noticeable by just looking at it, I guess because its such a dark finish.Originally Posted by Zhangliqun

Well, as small a problem as it might seem, it's soured me to the whole experience; especially since I was feeling some discomfort for falling off the wagon so hard. It was enough to put me over the top, so I just received a return authorization from music123. They are picking up the return shipping tab and will issue a full refund once they receive and inspect the guitar. Hopefully they will just do it and not give me any grief as to it being truly damaged or not. I don't think they will, in my transaction history with music123 is past orders that total $21,000 over 5 years; I don't think they want to lose me as a customer over the cost of shipping.

It's not a "hide and seek" type flame? Only visible in the flash, or is it like a "hologram burst?"Originally Posted by TattooedCarrot

Can't really see it without assistance from light, be it holding it at an angle or another outside light source. Looking directly at the top in room light its hard to tell. The back is very slightly better.
If you are wanting a hollowbody you should try a PRS
'05 Gibson SG Standard
'07 Gibson Sg Standard Emg 81/85
PRS IRW McCarty
'92 Fender MIA Telecaster
82 Usa Epiphone Spirit w/ Dirtyfingers

Some how they don't seem right, those McCarty hollows are pretty cmall bodies compared to traditional sized holows and semi-hollows. I might look at the Yamaha and the Heritage. But I'll also keep me eye out for a used 333, I had a good one of those in the past.Originally Posted by Ez74

uhh dude i'm 18 years old, $2000 is more money than i even want to think about. If you spent that on a guitar and it came RUSTED, you had better have gotten your money back hahaha
www.rondomusic.net they've got a 335 copy with humbuckers OR p90's! you could always stain it yourself later.

+1 to yamaha and heritage for 335 clones ... hell, even the tokai 335 clone is really outstanding ...

I think the finish is beautiful. If it plays and sounds good, I'd consider keeping it. I would be spooked too. $2000.00 isn't chump change, but if overall you like it. Stick with it. It probably needs minor fret dressing. I would have it done or do it myself, and bill them for it like they said.
Bottom line, is there's nothing like seeing a guitar up close and personal before buying. I know you couldn't do that in this case, but it would have saved you the headaches.
Good luck with it. It looks like a very cool 335![]()

This is exactly the reason I got this:
About $500 with hardshell case and everything on it is perfect.
"it is a really hard song. it has like 3 different power chords in it. i just learned what power chords are, i thought it was the thing from your amp that you plug in to the wall."
good choice returning it TC. if you're not 100% happy, why bother.
once again, nice top on that Ibanez X!!!
