How do use your SD's?

When I think of it now, I guess I haven't been here long enough, I KNOW some play metal, but what music style do you use your Seymour Duncan's for specifically and which pickup(s) is it? Also, how does it suit your style?

If there is a thread that has been like this in the past, please link me to it to save me the time instead of wasting precious thread space, thanks.

I don't wanna be a 'one-man Harmony-Central' if you know what I mean.

I play doom/grunge/sludge/whatever metal....I like it slow and I like it heavy.

I use a Duncan 59/C5 set in a Les Paul.....the scooped feel of these pickups give a great heavy rock vibe to this axe.

I actually prefer the sound and feel of EMGs, but I wanted an axe with a more vintage vibe to it, hence the choice in pups.

Do ya play like Crowbar-ish sludge to SLAYER, mayhaps?

I just figured Slayer (though they're not always slow) because of what it says under your avatar.

Crowbar, Sabbath, Electric Wizard, ect. The only Slayer song I learned was Raining Blood....I like their music, but their style of playing isn't "me".

i'm kind of the opposite of screamingdaisy in that i know a few slower heavy tunes but i get restless after a little while so i prefer thrash metal, Slayer, Megadeth, Testament, Metallica, you know the usuals.

but i also really love technical stuff like Vai, Petrucci, Friedman, Satch, Malmsteen, you know the usuals.

usually the slowest stuff i play is early 90s seattle stuff, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Mudhoney, The Melvins, you know the usuals.

My original stuff is sort of a hybrid of all the above mentioned genres.

my only duncan of choice being the lil screamin demon. though i'm still trying to discover a low output pup with tons o' mids. the only problem with the demon is the lack of mids, otherwise a nice pup.

I find that I can do and do anything with my SDs. Out of my current guitars my two SD equipped guitars are more geared towards lighter rock. Bands like Danzig and Alice in Chains and so on. Yeah, light! My DMZd SG plays all the really heavy tones. Like Electric Wizard. Damn, that band's great, I've been on a big listening spree lately. If I was 100% metal I'd probably go for EMGs, but I haven't really tried the high-output SDs out to be that certain about it.

My SDs of choice currently are a '59/Jazz set. They're really nice, not much to complain about. I'm not so keen on my JB/Classic stacks set I have on the other axe.

Depends...I do a lot of different stuff. Basically what I usually write are 8+ minute progressive rock songs that go from crushing, to jazzy, to ambient (kinda like five parts opeth, four parts the porcupine tree, and one part dream theater)...so I need my pickups to cover a lot of bases

I use my full-shred equipped super-tele for the modern, crunchy-as-all-hell heavy tones. I use my Custom 8/Jazz equipped LP for a bit of a more "classic modern" tone...the jazz is great clean and the custom 8 is absolutely crushing.

The Jb/duckbucker/cool rails loaded axe is my most versatile. Its an Ernie ball music man...I use that for pretty much anything. Split the JB and combine it with the duckbucker, makes for some pretty cool funky tones.

I got a few others that I don't use as much, a custom/air norton loaded schecter, a APII SC loaded strat. A few others that dont have duncans in em too. Each has its place...I dig em.

Well I play alot of stuff, from old classic rock to some freeform jam stuff, they cover it all, good clarity and all kinds of cool mids to work with.
All my guitars have Duncans now....hehe just like in the 80's

I "generally" play the music in My Sig... SDs complement our music perfectly and allow me to get the tones I need

When alone I tend to get either faster, heavier and more violent, or mellower and slower.. once again the Duncans cover all the bases, at least as long as I´m playing electrics.

Everything from Rock to R&B. Great pups, they sound like a classic record or LP right out of the box.

I love the APH1s because they always give you that timeless tone. The 59s, C5, CC, etc etc are all great as well!

I cover a whole bunch on bases with my SDs, but mainly heavy and melodic rock. It can range from speedy melodic punk or poppier punk, to aggressive thrash, speed and melodic power metal. Some jazz and blues licks in between. A lot of hammer ons and pull offs, pinch harmonics, shredding. I've been using JBs and Distortions. I mainly play in standard tuning, mainly because we have a female lead singer and she sings at a pretty high soprano. But who knows, may I'll test her range some more and try a song with a dropped tuning. ::shrugs::
