    Default Strat Humbucker

Looking to put a humbucker in my '62 Strat RI bridge. I have Lindy Fralin Vintage Hots in the neck and middle (love them). I play Zep (duh), EVH, ZZ Top type stuff with a LP usually but I would like to be able to play these with my Strat if need be. I just don't want to have to lug a Strat AND a Les Paul every time I go and jam.

Give you an idea of what I like. I have a Les Paul Studio with Gibson 498t's that I tend to only use for slide (i find those are too muddy for much else). I have a Les Paul Standard with '57 Classics that I like. and another one with Burstbuckers that I really like. I like my distortion to come from my amps and not my pickups. I have heard EVH used a lower output (8.5ish) Alnico II humbucker in his Strat for VH1. With those specs, you would think the Pearly Gates would work, but I am afraid of too much (icepick) high end--I hear that is a problem in that p/u.

(almost done) Are the Blues Saraceno Trembuckers the same as the blues trembuckers? Do I need trembuckers to fit my strat properly?

Thanks a ton for all input.

    Welcome to the forum!

As for your questions...I don't know about the trembucker. I always assumed when someone was commenting on the Blues Trembucker they were talking about the Blues Saraceno.

As for the humbucker, sounds like you're a PAF kind of guy. People like Lew can probably help you more with this...I'm more of a modern humbucker player, to be honest...lots of hard rock. So I'll defer to these folks!

The Vintage Hots are not really all that hot...they're still just 6K pickups. The Duncan SSL-1's are actually wound with a little more wire than the neck and middle Fralin Vintage Hots. I agree that they're great sounding pickups tho...I use them myself. As for a bridge bucker, I'd keep it under 9K. The EVH would be cool...so would a 59B. Couldn't tell ya which would be the better match with the Vintage Hots tho. Probably just come down to personal taste. I use the 59B in my S/S/H Strat tho I have a nice EVH waiting in the wings...I've been to lazy to try it! But it's also because the 59B (actually a 59TB in my Strat) sounds so good to me I don't really feel like changing it. Lew

    Hey Lew,

Called your shop today and you were gone already. I am in Arvada and would like to come by and check out what you have in stock. I don't know if it is bad etiquette to talk about lindy's here but I am also thinking about them. I guess it's between the Duncan (whatever) and the Voodoos and the Fralins. I talked to Steve at Wildwood the other day and he told me he'd break up a Fralin h/b set for me if I wanted (he should, I've given him alot of $$$ in the past few years ) but you seem to be the "pickup man" and I would love to pick your brain about what I am looking for. Shoot me an email and let me know if Tuesday is good for you and I'll bring my Strat over and we can talk. BTW, do you install these? I will need a route done on my guitar. I don't really know anything about pots and such. I've already called Herbert about this but if you can do the work that would be great.

    Anyway, let me know rloiko2@hotmail.com

Thanks Rick, Tuesday I'll be helping my attorney build a redwood deck all day. Part of a trade for some legal work I needed done a while back. And wednesday and monday are my days off. But I'll be there all day thursday through sunday. My email address is: Lewguitar@aol.com. I've got pretty much everything in stock: sets and singles. (Including a Duncan EVH humbucker if you want to try one...) Thanks again! Lew
