Default what are you "thinking" when playing?

do you have numbers (tab) in your head when you are playing (fast)?
or do you have note names?

and are you counting on "reference points"?

do you play based by "bar reference points" or on "beat reference points"?
(for example playing some fast and crazy quin-tipplets, but still know where the beat points (1, 2, 3,4) is?)

When improvising I don't "think". If I do stop to think, I loose the groove.
It's like singing, you can't stop and think about it while you're doing it.

    What's going on my head?
I'd really like to know the answer to that question.

i normally improvise, so im thinking of what would sound great next, and sometimes, hitting wrong notes purposly to put me in a new position.

i allways have past learnings like scales and stuff in my mind, but they are normally subconcoiusly, because im normally just listening to the music and have that tell me what to play, and what it says is normally something i allready know.

    well, for me yes....lol

but if you think "ok, now im going to slide up to the 14th fret, play this note, then hammer on on the b string, then...." you will start to slur notes and miss notes...

I think about nothing. The things have to come from their own. Sometimes i think the next part starts on B or something but often i think of some bs. It's cool when you stand next to you and can listen how you play if you know what i mean

To be honest, I hear lines in my head.....the hard part is making them come out.
Sometimes I have several parts lining up.
It is a thing between feel and knowledge for me.
I do not think in scales, I want lines and tensions and releases.

Depends upon whether I'm practicing or playing. With enough practice I find myself playing without thinking.

I definitely agree the hard part is getting the music in your head to come out thru the fingers.

usally when improvising try to play something that i have never played bofore. it doesnt have to be hard but i just neads to be diffrent to keap listeners interested. i have recently ben taking licks and moving one part of it up a string so i do alot of string sckipping. i think all of my soloing is just picking exercises.lol.
