I listen to the song in my head if its the first track. After that, I listen to the part thats playing.

well, when playing live, its usually "Dont fall off stage....dont look at her boobs....dont fall off stage". Last time I looked at a chicks boobies live, I couldnt find my way back into the song.

If I have to think about what I'm doing... I'm SCREWED !! My playing will
stinkAt the risk of sounding like a screwball ,When I'm ON!!!
I have to feel it, Like being in a zone? Spritully or emotionly ?? I feel the
beating or the drums on my back, And the pulsing rhythm of the Bass and I
just fire awayIt take's a while to get to that ZONE! You need the
Band Energy & Crowd Energy (a few c0cktails will help) But when
ya get to that zone... It's like Magic![]()

do you guys actually know that you are playing a quin-tipplet (if played) over an improvising?
in other words are you able to write the score afterwars?

I don't think while I'm playing. When I come up with riffs and stuff now I don't even bother to try to stay in a key, I just do what I think sounds OK, then sit down afterwards and try to work out if there's a scale anywhere that will allow me to solo over the mess I've just come up with![]()
Sloppy, I know.
If I come up with something I like I throw a tape in the 4-track and play it again. I'll sketch out a bit of tab on the notepad next to the 4-track if it's anything I'll struggle to remember (like if I come up with something that's outside my comfort zone, I need the tab I've sketched out and the tape if I want to figure out what I did).Originally Posted by kelvin
Maybe the fact that I don't think while I play is why I find it hard to play outside my comfort zone![]()
Write a score...I have not written one note since 1988![]()
Not gonna miss you know!

Sometimes think how good sound my tones and love the amp, and sometimes i hate It.
Sometimes just play without thinking.
what's a score? is that the freaky shit you read when a bunch of dots off of a clef? lol, i don't remember how to read that anymore... i just draw 6 lines and put fret numbers on themOriginally Posted by Rid

My problem is that if I start to think too much about the direction I'm taking a song, I'll usually screw up.![]()
I work best when I know and anticipate the changes and interact (eye contact and body language) with my band mates. The rest is all about "feel." Hmmmm, my wife would be proud to hear that I'm getting in touch with my more sensitive side![]()

Usually I am thinking I should have paid more attention at guitar lessons when I was a kid but if I get passed that, I try to focus on the groove and riding it.

I don't even think about scales much. I think more about the underlying harmony.

Im always thinking ahead. what lick will go good with this lick thats about all i do
