Default CC in a Les Paul? Suggestions? Please?

Looking for another tone out of my LP Studio. I find the stock 498ts that are in there to be way too muddy for my taste. I play out of a Plexi type amp and like my Paul to have more "zing?" than these pickups produce. I play Zep, VH, AC/DC, GnR, Gary Moore, Gov't Mule...hard rock stuff but no metal really. I've got BBckers in my other Pauls and like them but want something different for this guitar but in the same vein I guess. Heard the CC were a good bridge, what to match with them for a neck? Or is the Slash setup better for me in your opinion?

    Great board...

    Bad board for GAS...

    Thanks

And now I hear Warren Haynes uses PG!! Aaagh! I'm afraid after reading some posts on the CC that it may not have the high end I look for. Think of the first chord Jimmy hits in No Quarter on the Song Remains the Same movie. I realize that is a wah too but that's zing if I've ever heard it!

A cheap mod is to swap your existing pots (which should be 300K) to CTS500K's. You could be amazed by the difference.

I am afraid that CC with your existing pots could even make your tone even rounder, I dare say muddier. It is a great pickup, yet one gotta know where to use it.

And as far as the tones you are seeking, PGs are great! Antiquities are better!

The CC is a great pickup in a semi hollowbody guitar and plenty bright if you move it close to the strings and use 500K pots. I thought the CC sounded terrific in my solid body Hamer when played it through a cranked Marshall or 59 Bassman. At lower volumes, I felt it sounded a little thin. But cranked, it sounded excellant. My experience was much different with the CC in my Les Paul...Great clean tones..Lots of singing sustain, but I lacked the cut needed because of a lack of highs..I had my bridge pickup up pretty high also..The CC also lacked note articulation with gain and I soon found out that I really prefer my LP bridge humbuckers to be in the 8k range or a bit higher to keep the note clarity...I also just don't care for the mid content with the CC...

I like the CC and use one as the bridge pickup in my Hamer Super Pro...but John's right. I like the 59B more...

But sheesh...you can't have all your guitars sounding the same or why own a variety of guitars?

That's why all my Tele and Strats have differant models of pickups in 'em, as do my humbucker guitars.

None of my guitars sound the same Lew...I mean the strats sound similar but they all have their own personality or quirks if you will...It also boils down to that there are just certain pickups that always work and some that don't...I'm not a big advocate of the CC,in fact I didn't like it in my strats either...I don't hate the CC but it isn't the pickup for me? Thanks God we now have all these choices, actually way too many...It sure wasn't like this in the 70s when I started playing!

So what p/u would have more note articulation under medium gain, esp in the high end--PGs, 59s, AIIps or Jbs?

Are humbuckers they same as s/c in the way that the more windings=heavier sound and loss of high end? This is why I hate overwound s/c in a Strat and maybe why I dislike the 498t in my Studio LP.
