Default New guitar on its way ....

Just odered my first LP clone, an Agile AL-2800. Should be here in 3 weeks. After I Bare Knuckle it, it will cost about the same as an Epiphone ...

I have been playing strats for so long that when I pick-up a Les Paul-type guitar it feels so back-end heavy it is ridiculous. This is usually in a music store without a strap. I LOVE the looks of Les Pauls and that Agile looks pretty killer but I wonder if I'd ever be comfortable playing the thing...... even though I grew up playing a black/creme Les Paul Standard. That is a damn nice looking man.

I will need to have someone who is more LP saavy than I am to cover that one, but I can tell you that it's not an exact LP clone: The neck is maple, not mahogany, and the profile is a bit slimmer than a LP. It IS a set neck, tho, with mother of pearl trapezoids.

yeah, they seem to have done a pretty nice job on the cosmetics ... if it kicks some tail in the feel and sound departments, i see one in the future ... would be funny to have a guitar with a set of seths or ants in it where the pups cost more than the axe

i'd like to give the MIK tokai's a chance too

    cheers

That's a really nice finish. Have you ever played an Epi? If so, when you get it will you let me know how it compares to an Epi LP.

One is a Cold Sweat/Stormy Monday set. When I get to LGS next week, I'll be able to lock in a decision!

That's prolly what I'd go with as well for an axe dedicated to music in your (our) style.

Soon, you will come fully to the dark side. The LP style axe neck pickup is what a neck pickup should sound like. But, I'm several micro-brews to the wind as I sit here, so your mileage may vary

    Score one for Rondo Music!

Even though their site says that guitars are not shipping until the 1st week of May, I received a Fed Ex tracking number last night, and as of this morning, the guitar is already on the truck for delivery!

I'm having it delivered to my office, so I may not get there before the driver this morning; worst case, I'll have the guitar on Monday!!

Well, wonder of wonders .... not only did I find out this morning that the guitar shipped the same day I ordered it, but that it shipped FedEx, and was out for delivery TODAY.

It just arrived in my office. First impression is that it's VERY impressive!! Finish is good, parts are very good, inlay work is suprisingly nice. Acoustically, it sounds brighter than most LPs, probably due to the maple neck. The profile is very comfortable, and the neck finish is great. Frets are hand filed and look good. The neck actually plays GREAT!!

Also, the top is quilted maple, not a veneer or photofinish! Not the most flamed piece of wood, of course, at this price, but I don't like highly figured tops, anyway.

These pics aren't so good, b/c I don't have time for nice ones, but this will give you all the basic idea:
