    Default What mic for me..?

The other solution for me to record would be a microphone in front of the amp --> Maudio USB Fast Track --> Audacity or similar. I'd hear myself and the volume on the PC should be sufficient. But I don't know anything about:
    1) whether this would work or not
    2) what microphone should I get?

I want some decent hifi reproduction, but I don't need a 1,000USD condenser mic. My budget would be under 100 dollars, way less if possible. Just suggest any apart from the SM57 that would do the job if you can. Thanks!

Well I'm going to suggest the SM 57 even though you said not too. Lets face it, it's the quentessential amp mic and you just can't go wrong. Also try the Audix i-5 if you just can't stand the thought of a 57.

If I had one mic on a desert island it would be a 57.

For guitar & general purpose stuff?

Senheiser 609 silver or Audix OM/D series.

Will slay an SM57 most of the time...also FAR more durable. I have four SM57s in the mic locker that don't get used unless someone makes a specific request for them or I've already used everything else.

Why would you need a mic on a deserted island?

Obviously there's no electricity...you can't call anyone with it.

What 'ya gonna do? Use it to split open coconuts?

I said no 57 because I know about it already It's my backup try, but if there's something cheaper, it's always good

Ah I checked them all out, all including the SM57 are too expensive for me it seems.

    More expensive than SM57 here.
I'll just have to save up some it seems.

Save up a bit more and/or try the Audix i5... durable, great sound reproduction, and versatile.

I tried the SM57 and i5 side by side and the i5 killed the '57 for me.

    Don't cheap out.

I personally use an SM58 because I can't afford to buy a 57 just to twiddle around with recording in my basement. With the 58 you can use it for vocals as well (awesome mic)!
