Default anybody put a custom custom in the neck?

So I've got my Custom Custom bridge pup. I like it a lot. The highs and lows are F#$% perfect. I'm honestly undecided on the mids, the thickness is real that is for sure and works great for leads and mid fret work. I don't know if I love it for chugging though. Time will tell.

Now, my EVH custom shop is here! Its going in next weekend. While I'm bothering to audition and compare the EVH against the CC I'm tempted to throw the CC in the neck...

Sound crazy? Anybody do that? It seems like the CC bridge could do well in the neck...

It's seems like an endorsment for that from a BeeGee's guitarist can be found in the Old "Blue" Seymour Duncan catalog.

I personally like it for the chugging, so long as the chugging isn't too fast. Think newer Metallica type chugging, thats where the thickness sounds awesome. Older thrashier type stuff usually works better with a ceramic magnet IMO. However this does so much more, it works good for all gain levels, lead and rhythm, and cleans up nicely.

EDIT: I just realized that you asked about it in the neck and that I in no way whatsoever came close to helping you. My apologies.

Haven't ever done it. Cn'tsay I'm optimistic. I'm having trouble hearing/imagining it as good. But the facts speak for themselves. Do it and let us know!

I think the CC in the neck is a bad idea myself but, I could be wrong?

I think if you want the attributes of the CC in the neck, then the APH is the logical combination, perhaps the APH Bridge model. It's the 14k wind that will mud you out. So another A2 neck pickup, like the APH or Seth should hit the same nerve with you, blend well, and not be overbearing in volume or nasalness (is that a word?)

The highs and lows are perfect (as you put it) because the pickup is under the string at that position. Slide it down to the neck, and all of a sudden the abundance of frequencies you find enjoyable in the bridge will conflict and compound with the natural sound of the neck position.

frankfalbo, you hit the nail on the head. I could not have articulated it any better.

A better choice would be something in the 8K range with the A2 magnet. Maybe a Pearlygates or Seth Lover bridge pup.

I use the CC because of what it does and I don't think it would sound too good in the neck position. It works perfectly for me in the bridge, I use an ANT II firebird bridge or a ANT P-90 neck pickup for the neck position to match the CC bridge.

DIdn´t Hamer do this for quite some time paired with a Custom at the bridge, with good results?

Other way around: Hamer used a Custom for the neck and a Custom Custom for the bridge. Same 14.4K pickup...just differant magnets in each.

I didn't like the way the Custom sounded as a neck pickup...got muddy at higher volumes. So I changed it to a Seth Lover neck pickup and that sounded great.

The Custom and Custom Custom were both nickel covered and had single braided cable like a 59B in my Hamer. They didn't have 4 conductor cable like stock. But they were the same 14.4K pickups we all know.

It always thought Hamers use of the Custom as a neck pickup was one of those: "What were they thinking???" kind of things!

Hmmm, a lot of varied opinion here. Nobody else has done it yet. I'm inclined to upgrade one of my other guitars with the CC and get a balanced choice for the EVH - unless I decide I liked the CC better... which could certainly happen.

The burden of choice is not so bad.

    Thanks,

    Paul

ps - what was up with that BeeGee's response?
